SOUTH YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND: A three-year-old boy was saved in a heroic act by neighbors after a vicious XL bully dog attacked him while he was playing outside on Monday afternoon, April 17. Denis Juno was left with several injuries to his face and scalp when the violent dog clamped his head in its jaws. The horror incident has also left bruising on his arm and back. However, the child ultimately survived the attack when his neighbors pulled the out-of-control beast away.

According to The Sun, a resident who lives on the road in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, grabbed the dog "by the b*******" in order for it to release its grip on the little boy. The animal has been destroyed by police following the shocking attack. Moreover, its 42-year-old female owner has been taken into custody on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control. Juno, who was rushed to Sheffield General Hospital, is now back at home after completing his treatment for the bite marks.

Shirley Patrick: Widowed grandmom, 83, mauled to death by XL Bully in 'hellish and violent' dog attack

'They saved his life'

On Thursday, April 20, Juno's mother, who is Czech, and his Slovakian father, who are also parents to five other children, thanked those neighbors for rushing to his help, saying, "They saved his life." Recalling the incident, the parents said that they were moving into the red-brick terraced house on Monday at 2 pm when the dog attacked. “We only moved here on Friday and we were painting and shopping and getting things in the house,” they said with the mother adding, "Me and Denis and the smallest girl, we went outside. Denis was next to me playing with a toy shopping trolley."

'There was blood all over the little boy’s dad’s shirt'

She continued, "The lady with the dog opened the gate to take out the garbage can. The dog got out of the gate and ran towards Denis. I was yelling ‘no’, ‘no’, but it came and bit him. I was screaming and grabbed my little girl in my arms." This is when the neighbors rushed in to help the terrified boy, one of them being Thomas Hogan, 23. I saw the dog with the child's head in its mouth. His mother was really screaming. Other neighbors came to help and managed to drag the dog off, one of us got the dog by the bollocks. I thought the dog was going to kill him. There was blood all over the little boy’s dad’s shirt," Hogan recalled, as per the outlet. "The dog was vicious. It has previously killed a neighbor’s cat, and bitten another child - but nowhere near as badly," he said of the dog who has since been destroyed by the police.

An investigation is ongoing

"Police were called to the attack on a three-year-old boy by an XL bully just after 2 pm on Monday. He was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries," said a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson. "The animal has been seized and a 42-year-old woman was bailed after being arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control." An investigation is currently ongoing.
