Do Democrats want Pelosi and ‘The Squad’ replaced? Leaked call exposes feud: ‘We will get f**king torn apart’
According to The Associated Press, House Democrats on Thursday, November 5, brought focus on their election message, ground game and leadership under Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s team after expectations for big wins didn’t play out as expected.
Lawmakers spoke during a conference call — Democratic freshman Rep. Abigail Spanberger, in a tight race in Virginia, spoke with “passion” about the party’s campaign failures, according to a person familiar with the private call and chose to remain anonymous to discuss it. Politico reported, according to two sources, she said, “No one should say ‘defund the police’ ever again. Nobody should be talking about socialism." Spanberger also said if Democrats kept up like this in 2022: "We will get f**king torn apart." The marathon call last for around three hours, with some 30 members adding their views.
According to the Daily Mail report, Democrats kept control of the House in this year's election but their majority shrank and mostly it was the moderate members of the party who lost. The final results aren't in but Democrats could lose up to 10 seats. The report quotes Spanberger as saying, “We need to be pretty clear. It was a failure. It was not a success. We lost incredible members of Congress.” The Daily Mail indicated that her opinions may be indicating that the party leaders bowed to demand from the liberals, like members of 'The Squad.'
Spanberger was subjected to multiple attack ads accusing her of trying to 'defund the police' after she voted for a police reform bill. President Donald Trump and Republicans opposed the racial tension by accusing Democrats of not supporting police officers. However, Pelosi spoke against Spanberger. “I do disagree, Abigail, that it was a failure. We won the House,” the speaker said. She also conveyed that the lawmakers should come to her personally with any worries and gave out her personal cell phone number.
The report states that Democratic Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell of Florida, who was expected to win reelection, broke down as she spoke and mentioned how people can't pronounce her name and then told her colleagues to stop being negative on Twitter, a Washington Post reporter Erica Werner tweeted. When details about the call were seen in the Twitter feeds of Capitol Hill reporters, lawmakers demanded the guilty leakers be found. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, a member of Democratic leadership, got into the call midway through to tell those on it to stop leaking. He also cautioned them that reporters aren't their friends.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal demanded Jeffries find the leakers. The Daily Mail report notes, there are 232 Democratic lawmakers and all of them could have been on the call and even the staff could have been listening too, which makes it difficult to find the responsible person or persons for the leak. Rep. Jared Huffman tweeted: “Some of my colleagues are literally live-leaking our internal Dem Caucus call right now to CNN, The Hill, NBC, Politico, etc. I've gotten texts from 3 different reporters asking me to live-leak juicy details to them. No. We (Dems and the media) need to stop this nonsense.”

Jayapal, who is the co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, spoke for the left-wing of the party against the moderate attacks. “Our base is turning out to help save this country,” she said. And Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a squad member along with fellow Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, spoke for their group, all of whom won reelection. “Don't blame myself and others who are fighting for issues that matter to our communities. We need to do a real autopsy and dig through it before attacking each other.” But Rep. Marc Veasey of Texas also opined that the left's approach to defunding the police and banning fracking gave Republicans an excuse for their attack ads.
Meanwhile, as reported by MEAWW, there appears to be an in-party resistance building against the leadership of Pelosi as moderate House Democrats and other centrists are privately discussing a plan to throw their support behind a challenger to the Speaker. Two moderate House Democrats, while talking to The Hill, on Wednesday, November 4, said that they were reaching out to their colleagues about supporting one of Pelosi’s top lieutenants, Jeffries for Speaker. The Democratic lawmakers, who were not identified, said: "He’s the only one prepared and positioned” to be Speaker. "He bridges moderates and progressives better than anyone. And most importantly, he’s not Nancy Pelosi," they said referring to Jeffries.
