Demi Moore, 56, says she was raped at 15 by man who paid her mother $500: 'It was a devastating betrayal'
Demi Moore has revealed that she was raped at the young age of 15 years old by a man who then paid her alcoholic mother $500.
During an interview to promote her upcoming memoir 'Inside Out', Moore, who is now 56, revealed some of the most shocking and horrifying details from her new book while on 'Good Morning America'. Moore recalled that, when she was a teen, her mother would take her to bars so that they got attention from men.
Moore remembered that, one time, when she got home, she found an older man there who had a key to their home. He then raped Moore and asked her later, "How does it feel to be wh***d out for $500?'"
In her book, Moore writes, "It was rape and a devastating betrayal". When asked whether her mother pimped her out, she said, "I think in my deep heart, no. I don't think it was a straight forward transaction."
However, she added that her mother Virginia King had given him access to the house and had put Moore in harm's way. Moore had been raised by her mother and mother's second husband Dan Guynes whom she believed was her real father until the age of 13 when she found her birth certificate. Both Guynes and King were alcoholics.
Moore's mother King was also suicidal and had tried to take her own life many times. Moore remembers how she had to save her mother's life more than one time. "I remember using my fingers, the small fingers of a child, to dig the pills out of her mouth," she wrote in her book.
After the rape incident, Moore moved out of home by the time she was 16 and then launched her acting career. Her book will be released on Tuesday and has been dedicated to her daughters and mother.
