LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Days after two brothers Adam Deeg, 37, and Daniel Deeg, 42, were released from a Nevada prison, the duo has been accused of killing a man. A Nevada parole board official shared that the duo, who were out on parole, have been accused of murdering the 40-year-old Eugene Grinnell. Adam was released on December 9, and Daniel on December 16, according to the parole board official.

Court records state that the two brothers, who now face charges of open murder, brutally stomped on Grinnell’s head outside an apartment complex near Washington Avenue and Pecos Road in the east valley, on December 26. Grinnell died at the hospital two days later on December 28, unable to recover from his wounds. The records revealed that the sibling duo had four other accomplices but no information has been released regarding their arrests. The two had been residing in a halfway house ever since their release from jail in December.

Daniel was then arrested by the Las Vegas Metro Police on December 27 after being accused of violence, while his brother Adam was apprehended days later on January 18. In February, the brothers' preliminary hearings will begin.

Why did the Deeg brothers attack Eugene Grinnell?

While a motive for the brothers killing Grinnel has not been established, Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Grinnell had been involved in an incident where he had apparently intervened and broken up a fight in which his mother had been punched and was left with a black eye. The arrest report had parts of it redacted and so further information on the incident is not available as of now. The same reports also mentioned that Grinnell’s mother and some other eyewitnesses saw a group of men attacking him and stomping on his head.

The Deegs’ parole hearing

Records showed that Adam appeared before the parole board in July and his brother in September, last year. In addition, both Deegs informed the board that they received limited services inside the prison to help them improve their lives, as reported by 8 News Now.

According to documents, Daniel was serving a 72–180 month sentence for being a habitual offender related to a drug offense. Daniel had served more than three-quarters of his sentence, which had started in December 2016. Daniel had thanked the board for giving him a “chance to change” his life. Adam, who was in jail because of a kidnapping charge, was nearing the end of his 24-to-108-month sentence. Adam had said in his hearing, "I’m looking forward to getting out and being able to better my life and put this all behind me." Adam’s request for parole had been previously rejected in May 2018, at the beginning of his sentence. Adam had been instructed by the board to take further classes on rage and violence.

What did the parole board say?

According to records obtained by the 8 News Now Investigators, the parole board drafted a letter for Adam, “The case factors do not suggest that the inmate would be a danger to public safety if released on parole.” A parole risk assessment deemed him a “low risk". According to records, the board classified Daniel as a moderate risk, stating that his "prior prison term did not deter future criminal activity."
