LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In an interview with The Sun, Sharon Tate's younger sister and famous author, Debra Tate revealed she received a 'coded drawing' and an 'odd letter' from Charles Manson a few years before his death. Debra was just 16 years old when she lost her sister, who was brutally stabbed and strangled to death along with four others by members of the Manson Family.

Debra remembers when she met with Manson at the Los Angeles County Jail after his arrest and accused of being behind what became known as the Helter Skelter murders. However, Manson did not speak a word to her during the encounter. “I had two guards next to me, and we just sat there looking at each other for about 10 minutes,” Debra said in the interview: “No words were spoken; all we did was stare into each other’s eyes. I could just see and feel the aura of evil around him." According to a report by The Sun: "Debra reached out to Manson decades later while he was still behind bars at Central California's Corcoran State Prison, and, to her surprise, she says she received a response."

The Manson Family

The Manson Family was a cult led by Charles Manson that was active in California in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It consisted of more than a hundred followers and was alleged the use many hallucinogenic drugs. In the initial formation of the cult, Charles used to woo many females or young girls to his group and eventually used them to bring intelligent men to the team. It is often stated that Manson's primary target could have never been Sharon. However, Manson was familiar with the house at which she and others were murdered because its previous tenant, music producer Terry Melcher, had earlier considered and then decided against giving Manson a recording contract. Meanwhile, In late 1969, one of the cult members, Susan Atkins, claimed that the family murdered Tate “because we wanted to do a crime that would shock the world, that the world would have to stand up and take notice.”

The Murder of Sharon and her friends

The murder happened on August 8, 1969, when four members of the Manson family, Charles Manson, took Watson, Atkins, Krenwinkel, and Kasabian and broke into the home at 10500 Cielo Drive in Beverly Hills and killed everyone inside. The next night, desperate to make the first round of deaths look like part of a race war, Manson ordered his followers to a different address in Central Los Angeles, this one owned by middle-class couple Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, and killed the duo as well. She was eight and a half months pregnant with her child when Sharon died.

Manson's strange letter and drawing

According to The Sun Charles Manson's letter "rattled on" Debra said of the "rambling scrawl" she claims to have received from the killer. "He was writing about how he was an outlaw, and that he lives by outlaw rules, meaning he would never rat on any of his brothers and sisters, even though some of them had done it to him."

“But he drew me a little picture that was an exact replica of the Panamint Mountains, the mountain range surrounding Barker Ranch where Manson was hiding out after the murders and eventually captured,” Debra said. Further, she added, “There was also what at first glance looked like a sun coming up over the hills, but when you looked closer, it was actually a little image of Charlie, because he had a little ‘X’ on his forehead.”

When she spoke about her sister, she said, “She was my advocate, she was my very strong supporter, she truly believed in me,” Debra said. “Sharon was just such a kind, gentle, genuine soul, that there wasn’t a person that ever came across her that didn’t like her."Her death was such a catastrophic loss,” she added. “Not only to me but for the rest of us and the next generations, she certainly would’ve been a fantastic mother, but she was so cruelly robbed of that opportunity.” Added Debra.
