SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: David DePape, the person suspected of beating House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, had zip ties on him when he broke into the couple's San Francisco home. This incident is the latest instance of a link between the disturbance on January 6, 2021, at the Capitol.

Less than two weeks before the November 8 election which will decide who controls Congress and other statewide and local seats, the attack on Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi's 82-year-old husband, Paul was a disturbing reminder of the nation's toxic political climate. Members of Congress were instructed to request more security resources, such as stepped-up police patrols of their communities as threats against public figures are presumed to be at an all-time high. The attack "is a somber reminder of the threats elected officials and families face in 2022," US Capitol Police Chief J Thomas Manger wrote in a weekend message to lawmakers as per AL. The assault on Paul Pelosi, according to police in San Francisco, was planned. The suspect, 42-year-old DePape, allegedly confronted Paul in the family's Pacific Heights residence on October 28 and screamed, "Where is Nancy?”

Before officers arrived at a 911 call to the residence and observed DePape strike Paul at least once, the two men reportedly battled over a hammer. On suspicion of attempted murder, elder abuse, and burglary, DePape was taken into custody. His arraignment is scheduled for November 1 after the prosecution filed charges on October 31. The scene at the Pelosi residence bore unsettling similarities to the disturbance on January 6. “Where's Nancy?,” the rioters who invaded the Capitol in an effort to overturn Joe Biden's triumph over Donald Trump wandered the halls and bellowed menacingly in the earlier incident. Zip ties were seen being carried by some of the siege participants inside the Capitol. Additionally, CNN broke the news that DePape, the assailant who attacked Paul Pelosi, had a bag of zip ties.

At the time of her husband's attack at home, Nancy Pelosi was in Washington. She immediately went back to San Francisco where her husband was being treated in a hospital. According to her office, he underwent surgery for a skull fracture in addition to severe injuries to his hands and limbs. “Our children, our grandchildren and I are heartbroken and traumatized by the life-threatening attack on our Pop,” she said in a letter to her colleagues. “We are grateful for the quick response of law enforcement and emergency services, and for the life-saving medical care he is receiving.” She informed coworkers that Paul Pelosi "continues to improve" while he is still hospitalized.

Federal agencies have cautioned that domestic extremists motivated by electoral lies "pose a heightened threat" to the midterm elections as Election Day draws near and Trump aggressively promotes claims he did not lose to Biden in 2020. According to the Department of Homeland Security and other government authorities, lone criminals who use election-related problems as justification for violence pose the greatest threat. Democrats and Republicans alike, including Biden, condemned the attack on Paul Pelosi and stated that violence has no place in American politics. “Enough is enough is enough,” Biden said while campaigning in Pennsylvania on October 29.
