BERATE GASBY: Husband of lifestyle guru B Smith slammed for dating another woman while caring for Alzheimer's-stricken wife
The husband of ailing lifestyle guru B. Smith aka Barbara Smith has been at the receiving end of the Internet’s wrath, after it was reported that he is dating another woman.
Sixty four-year-old Dan Gasby, appeared with his new girlfriend Alex Lerner on ITV's ‘This Morning’ on Friday and explained their unique relationship.
Businessman and media executive Gasby is still taking care of his 69-year-old wife, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2013, after having symptoms for four years. As her condition worsened, she reportedly gave her husband permission to date another woman even as he continues to care for her.
"She said, 'I want you to go on, I don't want you to sit in a room with me and not have a life,'” Gasby told hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.
Gasby said he considers his wife’s message as the truest expression of love. “...To not hold someone to something that is not reasonable for their life expectancy.”
However, he wants to hold on to the promise he made, to take care of her and be with her through sickness and health. Gasby lives with Smith in a house which also has space for his girlfriend.
