The vicious attack took place on Mother's Day in 2021 in Florida. On Friday, May 12, Smith, 38, switched her plea from "not guilty" to "no contest" on charges of a third-degree felony that has a maximum jail term of five years, reported the Independent.

Fucci's murder charges and sentencing
Following a plea deal, Smith has been sentenced to 30 days in St Johns County Jai and has been served five years probation. She has been credited for already serving one day. Her son was 14 years old when he brutally killed his classmate. Her body was discovered near his residence south of Jacksonville.
In February 2023, Fucci pleaded guilty to first-degree murder charges. On March 24, 2023, he was sentenced to life which will be reviewed after he serves his term of 25 years in prison. During Fucci's initial questioning by investigators, Smith was also present at their home after the slain girl was reported missing, according to the Independent.
'Find his story and stick with it'
According to investigators, surveillance footage showed Smith cleaning and scrubbing blood stains out of her son's jeans after he was arrested. She even asked Fucci to tell the police that he wore khakis on the night of the fatal stabbing and not to mention the blood-soaked jeans he actually wore, and also to "find his story and stick with it" while inside an interrogation room.
As Smith has entered a no-contest plea, it will still be treated as a criminal conviction even if she did not dispute nor admit to the murder charges. A victim impact statement was presented by Stacy Bailey, mother of the 13-year-old victim during the hearing on Friday, two days before the second anniversary of the slaying. "I will also pray that you will reflect upon your actions while you are without your children on this Mother’s Day," said Stacy.
