'Crash Landing on You' Week 3: Jeong-hyeok gets shot in failed smuggling bid while trying to save Se-ri
Yoon Se-ri (Son Ye-jin) and Ri Jeong-hyeok (Hyun-bin) have been trying hard to not have romantic feelings for each other despite the chemistry. This fails big time in Episodes 5 and 6 in Week 3 of 'Crash Landing on You' as Jeong-hyeok puts his life on the line to save Se-ri. After Se-ri ended up in a North Korean village, Jeong-hyeok has tried hard to send her back to where she came from. However, multiple attempts to smuggle her out to Seoul have failed in the previous weeks.
So Jeong-hyeok asks his father, who is an influential director in North Korea, for help. In return for this, he agrees to get married to Seo Dan (Seo Ji-hye), who his family arranged for him to be married. He is also told that if things don't go according to his plan, he might be in trouble big enough that his father wouldn't be able to help him.
On the other hand, Jeong-hyeok has also confessed to Se-ri that he has a fiancée. This results in Se-ri trying to draw a line in their relationship, but that doesn't work for long. She is jealous of his relationship with Seo Dan, but doesn't want to accept it. And when Se-ri meets an acquaintance from Seoul — Gu Seung-jung — in Pyongyang when she arrives to get a passport photo taken, Jyeong-hyeok gets jealous too. Yet he tries to get Se-ri out of North Korea because he knows that her staying with him will be dangerous for her.
What Jeong-hyeok and Se-ri do not know is that Seung-jung is in a bit of trouble after Se-ri's brother finds out his location. You see, he is hiding from the South Korean government and Se-ri's brother after scamming a lot of money and to get away safely, he uses Se-ri. He gives away her location to her brother who does not want Se-ri to return alive because she will end up becoming the heir to their father's company.
This is what results in Jeong-hyeok's senior Cho Cheol-gang's (Oh Man-seok) involvement. You see, he is running an underground operation through which he gives criminals from across the world a safe house to live in until the statute of limitations for their respective crime passes. He is also the one that Se-ri's brother approaches to take her out. When Cheol-gang tries to kill her by employing the same method as he used to kill Jeong-hyeok's brother, Jeong-hyeok comes to rescue.
In the process of helping her escape, he gets shot. Se-ri, who was about to escape, finally finds herself trapped in a situation where she cannot leave Jeong-hyeok behind to board a flight to her freedom. She sits there, trying to get some help for the man who saved her life by sacrificing himself. From here, the connection between Se-ri and Jeong-hyeok has only strengthened and this will definitely affect Jeong-hyeok's future in his country and Se-ri's standing as the heir in hers. If Jeong-hyeok put his life on the line, Se-ri might have to put her ambitions on line to ensure that Jeong-hyeok survives. However, the episode ended before Se-ri made that call.
