The race to the Oscars just got interesting as Jessica Chastain won the Best Actress trophy at the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, March 13. The actress won the trophy for playing the role of late Tammy Faye Baker in the movie ‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’.

It is a huge win for Chastain and has solidified the chances of her winning the Best Actress trophy at this year’s Academy Awards as well. She previously won in the same category at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. Chastain had a tough competition in the category and edged past fellow nominees such as Kristen Stweart (‘Spencer’), Olivia Colman (‘The Lost Daughter’), Alana Heim (‘Licorice Pizza’), Nicole Kidman (‘Being the Ricardos’), and Lady Gaga (‘House of Gucci’).

Chastain, who was not present at the ceremony, shared a video on Twitter and thanked everyone who supported her throughout the movie. She revealed that she was “having dinner” in North Carolina when she got the news of her winning the CCA and she is “out of her mind” with “happiness”. She added, “Thank you so much, guys. I cannot even imagine. I am so moved, honored, and touched and so f***ing excited. I was eating dinner and drinking wine, but now I am going to drink a lot more.”

The race had been considered open for months with Gaga not being nominated at the 2022 Oscars and some other contenders getting recognized so late in the race. But it seems a new favorite has emerged in the form of Chastain.

As soon as it was announced that Chastain won the Best Actress trophy, social media erupted with joy and is sure that she is coming for the Oscar now. One of the fans wrote, “My favorite performance of 2021. So well-deserved Jessica!” Another fan wrote, “OMG!! She is coming for that Oscar win.” Meanwhile, another social media user said, “YASSHHH QUEEN, DESEREVEE.”

“She had a great career's run and an extremely talented actress. She's close to collecting her 1st Oscar,” another fan wrote. “Omg!!!!!!! First SAG and now Critics Choice!!!!!! The wins are adding up,” said another one.

Another fan wrote, “You deserve it more than anyone, so proud of you always. That Oscar is YOURS for real!!!”

However, there were many who believed that Kristen Stewart was robbed after being awarded Best Actress by so many critics’ associations. One of the fans wrote, “It makes no sense #KristenStewart on all the critic awards this season, how could Jessica Chastain get the award. Hope Kristen gets the best actress #Oscar.” Another fan wrote, “When the person who has won the majority of the Critics Awards doesn't win the Critics’ Choice Award. They failed on this one!”

“Wow, the #CriticsChoiceAwards just betrayed Kristen Stewart. Not even a fan of her performance but I'm mad, so all of this praise and anticipation from the critics' circles to do that, to suck up to what they think the Oscars will do? Shame on them. Congrats Jessica though!” said another social media user.

Stewart has been awarded the Best Actress accolade by more than 25 critics association this year and is also nominated at the Oscars.
