James Gunn turns in 'Superman: Legacy' script right before writers strike
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3' is currently enjoying a stellar premiere weekend, all thanks to James Gunn and his vision. This film could be a turning point for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and just what it needs right now. However, this is also a goodbye, as James Gunn is moving permanently from Marvel to DC. Fans may have to get used to reading about James Gunn and DC instead of James Gunn and ... Chris Pratt.
Gunn's next big project will be ‘Superman: Legacy’ which will introduce a new Superman and fans of DC are more than thrilled about it. James Gunn is writing and directing 'Superman: Legacy,' which raises a big question: could this film be affected by the current Writers Guild of America strike?

James Gunn’s next big project
James Gunn is a screenwriter and director, and so are his roles in 'Superman: Legacy,' and that's fortunate for him and everyone involved. Gunn submitted the first draft of the film just before the deadline set by the Writer's Guild of America, which called for a strike starting May 2, 2023, The Wrap reports. The more you learn about the strike, the more interesting it becomes, but for now the focus is on Gunn meeting the deadline so he can begin pre-production and casting of the film.
'Superman: Legacy is set to hit theaters in mid-2025, and even though that's still a while away, it will be worth the wait, despite the changes Gunn is making. As mentioned earlier, the film will feature a new Superman, and fans can not wait to see who could potentially replace Henry Cavill. While the Cavill replacement is a 50-page treatise in itself, fans of DC can relax as 'Superman: Legacy' will not be affected by the writers' strike.
Could the writers' strike affect your favorite superhero movies?
While most viewers understand and support the writers' strike, there is concern about the content they will consume in the coming months and years. Marvel and DC have some big projects planned for the next three years, including 'The Marvels,' Loki' Season 2, 'The Flash' and 'Joker: Folie a Deux,' to name a few. Luckily for superhero or supervillain fans, these major franchises are masters of planning ahead and most of their projects are already in production. Hopefully, the screenwriters' strike will be over by the time they finish pre-production for the 2026 films.
