President Donald Trump cut off ongoing negotiations over a Covid-19 relief bill and said that the talks will only be resumed after the elections. Budget talks over a multi-trillion relief deal between Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin had been underway for some time. The 74-year-old announced on Tuesday, October 6, that he has rejected the Democrats' latest stimulus proposal, claiming that Pelosi "is not negotiating in good faith."

In a series of tweets, he wrote: "Nancy Pelosi is asking for $2.4 Trillion Dollars to bailout poorly run, high crime, Democrat States, money that is in no way related to Covid-19. We made a very generous offer of $1.6 Trillion Dollars and, as usual, she is not negotiating in good faith. I am rejecting their request, and looking to the future of our Country. I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election when, immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans and Small Business."

He added, "I have asked @senatemajldr Mitch McConnell not to delay, but to instead focus full time on approving my outstanding nominee to the United States Supreme Court, Amy Coney Barrett. Our Economy is doing very well. The Stock Market is at record levels, JOBS and unemployment also coming back in record numbers. We are leading the World in Economic Recovery, and THE BEST IS YET TO COME!"

As soon as he put out his statement on Twitter, the stock market sharply tumbled down. According to a Daily Mail report, "The Dow Jones crashed more than 300 points within minutes and closed down 375 points." An Investors report then said, "The tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 1.6% Tuesday. The S&P 500 lost 1.4%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 1.3%, or 375 points. Among stock market leaders, Apple (AAPL) and Microsoft (MSFT) declined 2.9% and 2.1%, respectively."

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden later said that Trump had "turned his back" on the American people. "He turned his back on every single worker whose job hasn't come back yet," Biden said in a statement, adding: "He turned his back on families struggling to pay rent, put food on their table and take care of their kids."

In no time, Pelosi released her official statement over the fiasco and the tweet collected over 12,000 retweets and 36,000 likes in no time. “Today, once again, President Trump showed his true colors: putting himself first at the expense of the country, with the full complicity of the GOP Members of Congress,” she said.

She added, “Walking away from coronavirus talks demonstrates that President Trump is unwilling to crush the virus, as is required by the Heroes Act. He shows his contempt for science, his disdain for our heroes – in health care, first responders, sanitation, transportation, food workers, teachers, teachers, teachers and others – and he refuses to put money in workers’ pockets, unless his name is printed on the check.”

“At the same time, the President is abandoning meeting the needs of our children as they adjust to learning in-person, virtual or hybrid.  Instead, Trump is wedded to his $150 billion tax cut for the wealthiest people in America from the CARES Act, while he refuses to give real help to poor children, the unemployed and America’s hard working families,” she exclaimed.

“Clearly, the White House is in complete disarray. Sadly, they are rejecting the urgent warnings of Fed Chairman Powell today, that ‘Too little support would lead to a weak recovery, creating unnecessary hardship for households and businesses. Over time, household insolvencies and business bankruptcies would rise, harming the productive capacity of the economy and holding back wage growth.  By contrast, the risks of overdoing it seem, for now, to be smaller.  Even if policy actions ultimately prove to be greater than needed, they will not go to waste."

Pelosi then questioned whether the drugs used to treat his Covid-19 infection were having an effect on his decision making to provide relief to Americans, according to a Capitol Hill source as reported by USA Today. The report further explained that she made the snide remark on a conference call with fellow House Democrats on Tuesday afternoon, just after Trump's decision to halt negotiations on the coronavirus stimulus bill.

The Internet was soon brimming with mixed reactions over the announcement. "On a Democratic call, reacting to the President abruptly breaking off stimulus talks, Speaker Pelosi questioned whether Trump taking a steroid was impacting his thinking, according to two people on the call," CNN reporter Manu Raju tweeted.

"Spkr Pelosi has every right to question whether the steroid is impacting his thinking. Two of the major side effects of steroids are mood issues & brain fog. Ask anyone who has ever taken a steroid about this. She must think about the safety of our country & all Americans," one tweet read and another said, "I don’t think the research is in, on mixing Adderall and steroids. This is a real-time lab control. Also, Pelosi needs to go." A third chimed in, "Trump is on heavy steroids, which can make people angry and vindictive. This isn’t Pelosi, it’s Trump on mind-altering drugs."

The fact that the White House made a very "generous offer" of a $1.6 trillion relief package while Speaker Pelosi wass seeking $2.4 trillion irked many on social media. The Internet then slammed both Pelosi and Trump over not being able to negotiate the bill.

"I have taken steroids before as have many people. This narrative is straight nonsense. The truth is that Pelosi is the witch of resist & has no desire to negotiate a clean bill. She is just holding us all hostage for campaigning purposes," one tweet read and another said, "Pelosi rejected a 1.6 Trillion deal and tried to add in bailouts with this new deal. Trump wasn't going for it. You need to go after Pelosi, not Trump."

A user tweeted, "Why are they not blaming Piggy Pelosi? She walked away from $1.6 trillion! $1.6 trillion! But that was not enough new taxpayer debt to bail out failed cities with failed leadership. Pelosi stomped her hooves and demanded $2.2 trillion. What a fool."
