STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN: The thrilling sci-fi storyline of 'Constellation' on Apple TV+ has left viewers puzzled and yearning for an explanation.

An undeniable shift has occurred in Jo Ericsson's (Noomi Rapace) world since her return from space. Even in the presence of her daughter Alice (Davina Coleman and Rosie Coleman), a genuine connection appears elusive.

The narrative takes a perplexing turn as Jo witnesses two different versions of her daughter, intensifying the audience's bewilderment.

In the final scene of Episode 5, Jo is seen investigating tape recordings from the fateful day of the ISS accident, capturing a conversation with her daughter, Alice Ericsson.

However, Alice interrupts and asserts that the voice on the tape isn't hers. She denies speaking Swedish or addressing Jo as "Mamma.

Tension intensifies as another scene unfolds, unveiling an alternate Alice trailing her mother through snowy woods, also using the term "Mamma." This eerie occurrence suggests that Jo is caught up between two different realities.

In one reality, Paul Lancaster (William Catlett) tragically dies on the ISS while Jo miraculously returns.

Conversely, in an alternate reality, Jo is the one who dies while Paul survives. This implies that Jo exists in dual states, with her realities converging post-space accident.

Henry Caldera's CAL experiment explains the mystery in 'Constellation'

The series introduces us to Henry Caldera's (Jonathan Banks) CAL experiment, which studies a concept of quantum mechanics where the same particle can exist in two different states simultaneously.

Simultaneously, it can also inhabit an intermediary space between its two distinct states, opting to showcase the characteristics of one only when subjected to observation.

While Jo's alternate self appears to have died in space, an inexplicable phenomenon occurs, leading to a swap between her and her alternate counterpart.

Consequently, she finds herself in an alternate reality where Alice neither speaks Swedish nor addresses her as "Mumma."

Similar to the double-slit experiment where observation collapses the superposition, Jo's perception of encountering two versions of her daughter shatters when she attempts to directly observe her real daughter.

'Constellation' is available to stream on Apple TV+.
