Two sisters have left people confused after revealing how their two sons are brothers, cousins, and twins at the same time.

Identical twins Brittany and Briana Deane married identical twins Josh and Jeremy Salyers before giving birth to babies within months of each other. Taking to Instagram, they shared photos with their sons Jett and Jax and revealed they were "cousins, genetic brothers, and quaternary twins," leaving netizens bewildered.

A discussion ensued in the comments section as many people expressed their confusion as to how this was possible. Eventually, one user explained how both the mothers and fathers were identical twins and as both sets of parents subsequently had kids, the "same exact DNA created both." Another clarified how identical twins shared 'the same DNA' if both sets of parents are identical. “If this family took an ancestry DNA Test it would show these babies as siblings, not cousins!” they added.

According to The Sun, Brittany and Briana met Josh and Jeremy Salyers at a festival for twins in 2017. Following a whirlwind romance, the brothers proposed six months later. The two couples had a joint wedding ceremony on August 5, 2018, and currently live in the same home in Virginia.

“Guess what!!?? BOTH couples are pregnant!” the couples wrote when they broke the news on their shared Instagram handle. “We are thrilled and grateful to experience overlapping pregnancies and to share this news with you all! Our children will not only be cousins but full genetic siblings and quaternary multiples! Can’t wait to meet them and for them to meet each other!”

The pregnant women previously shared a photo of themselves posing in identical pink and blue dresses to mark the gender reveal. “Make it pink! Make it blue!” they wrote in the caption, before announcing Brittany & Josh were having a boy and that Briana & Jeremy were "still waiting to find out.”

Speaking to Australia's 'Today' show, the sisters revealed their plans to get pregnant at the same time. They were asked if they would coordinate their love-making sessions to make it happen when Brianna admitted that "the timing will have to be really good." Brittany added, “I think there’s just something we would love to experience together. We have experienced most milestones of our lives together, birthdays, getting our driver’s license, graduations, and our double wedding. This would be the next huge event, and we’d love to experience it together, and ideally, we will."

Having said that, Brittany and Briana aren't the only twins to become pregnant at the same time. Minnesota twins Rachel and Kim Saunders gave birth to their sons after going into labor at the same time. William 'Trip' Saunders Soule was born at 11.27 pm on July 8 last year, while his cousin Crew Philip Crawford was delivered at 1.28 am on July 9. The mums, who are popular on social media with over 282,000 followers on TikTok, told their fans, “We knew we wanted kids at the same time and ended up pregnant the same month.”

After going into labor, the pair packed their belongings and headed to the hospital together. The sisters even planned to pass time in the ward playing games with each other. “When you brought cards to the hospital, thinking you would have downtime during labor," the Saunders twins recalled on TikTok. “Unfortunately, couldn’t find time to play cards between contractions, epidurals, and pushing," they quipped.
