Concerns and memes about World War III flood social media after Russian missile reportedly hits Poland
PRZEWODÓW, POLAND: A Russian-made missile struck NATO member Poland and hit its territory by killing two people near the Ukrainian border on Tuesday, November 15. Confirming the news, Lukasz Jasina, a spokesperson for Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, “At 15.40 [local time] in the village of Przewodów in the Hrubieszów poviat in the Lubelskie Voivodship, a Russian-made missile fell, killing two citizens of the Republic of Poland.”
Following the apparent missile strike, a White House statement read, as quoted by DW News, "President Biden offered full US support for and assistance with Poland's investigation. President Biden reaffirmed the United States' ironclad commitment to NATO." Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said, "I am calling on all Poles to remain calm in the face of this tragedy... We must exercise restraint and caution." While the German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit tweeted, "Poland will closely investigate the circumstances of the incident in which two citizens died last night. Germany stands close to our NATO partner Poland."
