Colin Firth and Livia Giuggioli reach agreement with ex-lover over alleged stalking case
Colin Firth and his wife, Livia Giuggioli, had publicly accused her ex-lover of stalker her about four months ago, and now, finally, they have settled the matter out of court - revealed the lawyer representing the couple, and Italian journalist, Marco Brancaccia, as per latest reports.
"In the best interests of their families, the parties have agreed (on) a private settlement," lawyers representing both Firth and Giuggioli, and Brancaccia shared in a joint statement. "Therefore the parties have asked the court for a postponement of the preliminary hearing in order to formalize the agreement. From this point on, this agreement precludes any further public statement by any of the parties about this matter."
Back in March this year, Firth and Giuggioli had revealed that she had been involved in an affair with Brancaccia at a time when the couple was separated.
“A few years ago Colin and Livia privately made the decision to separate. During that time, Livia briefly became involved with former friend Mr. Brancaccia. The Firths have since reunited," his representative, Luke Windsor, had shared in a statement to USA Today at that time. “Subsequently, Mr. Brancaccia carried out a frightening campaign of harassment over several months, much of which is documented.”
Brancaccia, 55, had since denied the stalking allegations, and in a March interview with the British newspaper The Times, he had also come out in the open about how Giuggioli had made the stalking rumors up to cover up the affair. As per his claims, their affair had lasted from 2015 to June 2016, post which, he had sent just two messages to her on the texting app, WhatsApp, and an email too.
"I wrote an email to Colin about my relationship with Livia, which I now regret sending, and she filed a complaint against me for stalking out of fear that I could go public with what she had revealed to me about her marriage and work," he told The Times. "In a year she sent me hundreds of messages of love, photos and videos, even a diary."
Giuggioli and the Oscar-winning Firth got married in 1997, and have two sons together, called Luca and Matteo. Because this marriage, Firth was in a five-year relationship with American-Canadian actress Meg Tilly, from 1989 to 1994. The couple share a son, Will Firth, 27.
Firth's career in Hollywood has been significantly upheld by his Oscar for best actor in a leading role in 2011 for his role as King George VI in The King's Speech. The same role had also earned him a Golden Globe and BAFTA Film Award. In 2010, Firth had been nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe for his role in A Single Man, too.
