Logan Smith: Florida teen copies 'Scream', plots to kill jogger to enact sexual fantasy
COCOA, FLORIDA: A teen in Florida has been arrested and is facing charges of attempted murder after he allegedly tried to kill an unsuspecting jogger. The 18-year-old, Logan Smith reportedly spied on the victim for six weeks before attempting to strangle the jogger on Monday, January 17, in a Port St. John neighborhood in Florida.
As per the police authorities, the victim was able to fight back using his training in martial arts, until police arrived in the area of Batavia and Kings Highway. The 18-year-old had told police he planned to store his victim’s body in his fridge and use it to "fulfill his sexual fantasies". As per the arrest report, Smith devised this morbid plan after getting inspired by the slasher movie 'Scream'.

Smith reportedly told police that he monitored the jogger’s running routine and route, which would go past his home. As part of the deadly plot, Smith prepared a belt, rubber ballet and can of deodorant spray ready to use it on the jogger when the victim would pass by his property. The teen had placed the materials in between two vehicles in the driveway. The 18-year-old told police the plan was to attack the victim by striking him with the mallet and spraying the deodorant in his eyes. He then planned to strangle the man and use a bedsheet to drag him inside the house across the street.
According to the plan, Smith allegedly hid behind a light pole and went through with the attack when the jogger passed by, but he had not thought it would backfire. Smith “tossed the clothing robe belt over the victim’s head until it was around the front area of the victim’s neck," but the victim, trained in martial arts, fought back and called police. The victim told a dispatcher, "I’ve got him detained on the ground right now. I need the cops here immediately," according to audio of the 911 call obtained by the Orlando Sentinel. Further when the dispatcher asked the victim if he knew his attacker, the victim said, "Absolutely not".
An unnamed family friend told Fox35 Orlando that Smith has two mental disorders that were diagnosed at a young age. He further said, the teen struggled since his father died in a vehicle accident five years ago. The family friend described the teen as a loner and said, "He wouldn’t have been the kid you invited to the cool parties. He wouldn’t be the kid that had the cool shoes."
Smith has been charged with attempted murder and is being held in the Brevard County Jail without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 10.
