CNN’s David Chalian mercilessly mocked for fawning over Joe Biden's inauguration: 'It's absolutely disgusting'
CNN's political analyst David Chalian is being mocked and trolled mercilessly on social media for his gushing description of the 46th President Joe Biden's inauguration. Chalian is being called out for saying lights from Lincoln Memorial are like "extensions of Joe Biden’s arms embracing America." In conversation with fellow-anchor Wold Blitzer on January 20, before the inaugural ceremony commenced, Chalian went on to say on the national television, "Those lights that are just shooting out from the Lincoln Memorial along the Reflecting Pool — it’s like almost extensions of Joe Biden’s arms embracing America."
He further added, "It was a moment where the new president came to town, and sort of convened the country in this moment of remembrance, outstretching his arms." Chalian's comments followed Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris's speech at the Covid-19 memorial service on January 19. In the same segment, he drew comparisons between former US president Donald Trump's virtual farewell address and Biden's inauguration and said "You couldn't get a stronger contrast."
He said, "Contrast that with that video you just saw of a disgraced president on his way out at his lowest point in his presidency, at the very end here, by himself, fighting for his political movement to live on, and not even necessarily promising that he’s going to be leading that movement." He further added, "I just think that sort of isolated moment of Donald Trump inside the White House vs. Joe Biden on the National Mall with an embrace of the country in this dark time, on the eve of his becoming the 46th president, you couldn’t get a stronger contrast.”
Chalian's description of the 46th president's inauguration turned many heads as one couldn't help notice his flattering words about Biden. Twitter was flooded with not so pleasing comments about Chalian and the latest segment on CNN, with many calling out the network for his style of reporting.
One tweeted, "Just imagine CNN if a journalist from Fox said something like this about Trump. They would have a field day with this." Another added, "Fake news #cnn talking head @DavidChalian likened the lights in the DC mall to Joe Biden’s arms reaching out and embracing America. Let that image sit with you for a moment. See how the creep factor has actually ratcheted up?" One wrote, "How does it feel to be the most mocked person in politics today? Your commentary will go down in the history books. Lol" Adding to the previous tweets one wrote, "Listen closely and I think you hear @DavidChalian having an orgasm during this report.
