The tragic death of Cmdr Robert Ramirez III: SEAL Team 1 commander survived by wife Anne and 4 children
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA: Cmdr Robert Ramirez III, 47, was found dead at his home in San Diego on Monday, December 19. He has been married to Anne Ramirez and has four children. Robert "Bobby" Ramirez III was promoted to the Commander rank and was assigned to oversee SEAL Team 1 of the West Coast Special Warfare Unit in June 2022.
According to Daily Mail, Capt David Abernathy, commanding officer of Naval Special Warfare Group 1, stated, "Bobby was an outstanding leader, devoted husband, and father, and a good friend to us all. This is a devastating loss to our community and all who knew him. We will support Bobby's family, friends, and teammates, during this extremely difficult time." However, foul play is not suspected at the moment, in his death.

According to The Independent, Commander Ramirez has received many awards. These awards included five Bronze Star Medals and three Combat Action ribbons. He received several medals in relation to the wars in Afghanistan, and Iraq, and the Inherent Resolve campaign against ISIS. The 47-year-old was also awarded a Defense Meritorious Service Medal and a Joint Service Commendation Medal. Ramirez was enlisted on 25 January 1996. Later, he moved on to Navy Special Warfare Basic Training in Coronado, California in 1997.
Meanwhile, he was assigned to the East Coast Special Warfare Unit in Virginia between June 1997 and July 2001. In 2001, he became a student in the Seaman-to-Admiral Program at Old Dominion University and was commissioned in 2004. Later, he rejoined SEA, reported Coffee or Die. Ramirez fought in Iraq four times and was deployed twice to Afghanistan. He’s the second SEAL team commander to pass away over the course of the last year. Previously, Cmdr Brian Bourgeois died during helicopter rope training in Norfolk, Virginia on 7 December 2021.
Obi Ugochukwu, a Navy medic, said, "This is just a devastating loss. The pain of this loss cuts really deep. Many of us were at Bobby’s Change of Command Ceremony and it was such a joyous occasion. I can’t understand this and I am just praying for Anne, the children and the rest of the family. We lost a GREAT HERO and this will hurt for a very long time," reported Daily Mail. The commander had spent nearly 27 years in the Navy, rising from a recruit in Great Lakes, Illinois, to lead a SEAL team. He took command of the Coronado-based team in November.
