LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Donald Sterling isn't the only one to face the consequences of his leaked audio tape that contains his racist remarks. Those around him face heat of the scandal in varied ways, as shown in 'Clipped' Episode 5.
The sports drama mini-series premiered on June 4, 2024, narrates the downfall of former LA Clippers owner and real-estate mogul, Donald Sterling (played by Ed O'Neill).
The six episodes give a sneak peek into the lives of those associated to him, how the controversial audio was recorded and released and what happened thereafter.
Episode 5 also sheds light on how Andy Roeser (Kelly AuCoin), the former president of LA Clippers faced irreversible consequences of the scandal.
Why does NBA terminate Andy Roeser in 'Clipped' Episode 5?
Earlier in 'Clipped', Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne) asked Andy Roeser to get Donald Sterling apologize for his remarks in the audio clip. When Sterling declined, Roeser issued a statement on the team's behalf questioning if the tape had been altered.
In Episode 5, NBA terminates Roeser, believing that Sterling might attempt to run Clippers through him since they share a close bond. And thus, his association of 30 years with the Clippers comes to an end.
What happens to Andy Roeser after parting ways with Clippers?
Andy Roeser's chapter in 'Clippers' ends with his termination and we don't hope to see him in the finale episode.
His termination showcases how Sterling's single comment severly impacted people around him, costing their jobs and reputation.
NBA executive vice president of communications Mike Bass said that Roeser's removal would "provide an opportunity for a new CEO to begin on a clean slate and for the team to stabilize under difficult circumstances," as reported by Yahoo News in 2014.
In real life, Roeser went on to start his own company in 2015. As per his LinkedIn profile, Roeser Management Group provides management and advisory services for clients from the field of sports and live entertainment, commercial real estate, property management, and start-up entities.
