A clip from a 2017 Texas senior prom has gone viral on TikTok for its "embarrassing" song choice. Posted on Thursday, June 30, it shows the prom king and queen's winning dance and has already amassed more than 16 million views.

The clip posted by TikTok user Celeste Orozco captured the awkward moment when the DJ played Ed Sheeran's 'Thinking Out Loud' for the winning duo. The pop star's voice rang out as he sang the opening line of the 2014 hit song, "When your legs don't work like they used to before" as the prom queen Sarah Mendenhall sat in the middle of the dance floor in a wheelchair.

The caption posted by user @celesteiliana__ reads, "A prom queen crowning moment to remember" while she wrote on the video, "This would haunt me the rest of my life if I were the DJ." Apart from scoring more than 16 million views, the TikTok video has over 2.8 million likes and 45,000+ comments. Users on the internet were quick to comment on the incident.

One user tweeted, "Well, at least it wasn't 'These Boots are Made for Walking' [shrugging woman emoji]." Another said, "Now that I think about there are probably a lot of songs that would make this situation very awkward." A third wrote, "Normally, I don't go for the pc stuff — but the DJ was tasteless. A little heart would've gone a long way." A fourth added, "The universe has a sick sense of humor."

While one user said, "Should have played 'she got legs...'" another replied, "Could be worse, the DJ could have played this," and attached a link to the song 'Legs' by ZZ Top. A third joined in and commented, "Coulda been worse. He could've played 'Rollin' by Limp Bizkit." A fourth quipped, "Ed Sheeran's 'Thinking Out Loud' has been streamed over 2 billion times, but this time, the DJ should've changed his tune."

One user commented, "The DJ realising his mistake as the lyrics blurt out loud and clear... talk about a major life-changing screw-up." Another said, "Honestly I find nothing haunting but rather funny that the DJ picked the song." A third wrote, "It's a great song. It was just a mistake. I don't think it was intentional. I have played this in weddings, The DJ clearly didn't know the lyrics just maybe how popular of a love song it is. I don't think he would jeopardize his business like that."

Meanwhile, Mendenhall commented on the viral video to clear the air. "Hey everyone so this is me lol. I found it really funny and ironic. I didn't know what was playing until way after cause I was tryna [sparkles emoji] dance [sparkles emoji]." Orozco, who posted the video, further clarified, "Had a great prom night and a good laugh about it the next day. Please stop with the hate." She also revealed that Mendenhall was her best friend.
