As Disney's classic fairytale ‘Cinderella’ is revamped into a modern musical rom-com reboot by Sony Pictures there is a lot of good news coming on the way to ramp up your excitement.

One is that ‘Cinderella,’ directed by Kay Cannon, has resumed its shooting outside of London. Cannon just shared a sneak peek of the shoot on Sunday, September 27 in an Instagram photo that shows herself, ‘Havana’ singer Camila Cabello and actress Idina Menzel. The Instagram photo shows the trio looking gleeful as they tease fans about the upcoming fairytale story. Cannon captioned the post: "@shanny.mc for the win! Revelling the time I have left shooting w/ Cinders, @camila_cabello & her NOT evil stepmother, @idinamenzel (there are no villains in this movie. ❤️)" This looks like a major hint to what we can expect about the otherwise cruel character of Cinderella's stepmother. Cabello then shared the same post on her Instagram Story, writing, "I love this film so much," as reported by The People. What's more? The film will also see Billy Porter essaying the role of Fairy Godmother, which is highly unusual given that the usual version of the story had a female playing it. Such developments related to the shooting of the film and changes in character sketches make us eagerly wait for the fairytale’s modern remake. Here is all we need to know about the upcoming project.

Release date

Sony announced a release date for ‘Cinderella’ in April this year saying it will open in the US on February 5, 2021.

The most awaited part of the film will be to see who plays what roles. As per Insider, Cabello will star as Cinderella, Minnie Driver as Queen Beatrice, Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Robert, Billy Porter as the fairy godmother and Idina Menzel as the stepmother.

Camila Cabello

Singer-songwriter Camila Cabello was born in Havana, Cuba in 1997. She rose to fame in 2012 when she auditioned for the 'X-Factor' and joined a girl group Fifth Harmony. She was the lead singer in the musical group until she departed in 2016. As a singing sensation, Cabello released two hit singles -- 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' with Shawn Mendes and 'Bad Things' with Machine Gun Kelly. Cabello went on to feature with notable artists in the music industry such as Cashmere Cat on 'Love Incredible' and Pitbull and J Balvin on 'Hey Ma'.  She has scored 3 Grammy nominations for her work to date.

She became a household name with her sensational single hit 'Havana' that was released in 2017. The hit 'Havana' clinched to number 1 on Hot 100 Billboard and number 1 in the UK Official charts too. The single also became number 1 on the official worldwide charts. This made Cabello achieve the record of holding the top spot for the longest run by a female artist in 2017. After carving a niche in the music industry, 'Cinderella' marks the first major film role that she has bagged and will be worth a watch to see her acting caliber.

Billy Porter

Before starting a career as a mainstream pop vocalist, Billy Porter cemented a substantial reputation as a theatrical singer in Broadway productions. This includes his work in productions like ‘Grease’ and ‘Smokey Joe's Cafe’. As an entertainer, Porter has never hesitated away from portraying roles that have a feminine sensibility. Apart from having a successful career on stage and television, Porter is popular for being a fashion icon and pushing gender boundaries. He has strived for more diverse representation in Hollywood.

For this role, Porter won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical and Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical. He currently stars in the television series ‘Pose’. The series was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. Moreover, the series got Porter the 2019 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series making him the first openly gay black man to be nominated and win an Emmy in the Lead Actor category.

In October 2019, it was announced that Porter will star as the iconic Fairy Godmother in ‘Cinderella.’ Mentioning about his role, he said, "Magic has no gender," as reported by CBS News. "I think the new generation is really ready. The kids are ready. It's the grownups that are slowing stuff down." He added on the role of Godmother, "We are presenting this character as genderless — at least that's how I'm playing it. And it's really powerful."
