AUSTIN, TEXAS: Christy Wedgeworth, a Texas mother has been sentenced to 60 years in prison after she failed to protect her infant son from being beaten to death by her boyfriend, Joshua Deshaun Lowe. The court concluded that she did not intervene on purpose, and let his partner physically abuse her infant and the child's elder sister as she was found guilty of two counts of injuring a child through ‘omission.’

Earlier, Joshua Deshaun Lowe, 29, was convicted of capital murder and was sentenced to life for beating victim, Javonte Neeley, aged 11 months, to death. It was also found by the investigators that the convict used to strike the baby with his boxing gloves on. As per the official records, the little one was taken to St Michael’s hospital in Bowie County, Texas, on July 11, 2021. Lowe told the hospital staff that the child had choked on a hot dog, as per an arrest affidavit, reports Texarkana Gazette. But that did not satisfy the medical personnel since Neeley had some serious physical injuries, which included severe trauma to the head region, and multiple broken bones in several stages of repair. All this alarmed the hospital, and they called the cops.

Lowe continued to sell cops a story and alleged that he had dropped the infant after the child threw up on him at the table, “Lowe used a doll to demonstrate how he dropped (Javontae). He dropped the doll from one or two feet in the air,” according to the affidavit. But again, that didn’t explain the child's massive array of injuries, which were revealed to be “at least seven to 10 days older than the injury to the head,” the affidavit further claimed.

According to the TXK Today report, a doctor from the Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, has told the authorities that Javontae was battling injuries that include, “abusive head trauma, subdural hemorrhage, cerebral edema, retinal hemorrhages, healing rib fractures (five separate ribs), and bruising, (facial scalp, ear, cheek, chest, back and extremity).”
The doctor also pointed out that it child’s brain and eye bleeding consistently was proof that he regularly faced violence and was often thrown into a hard surface, according to Law&Crime.

The affidavit also had a statement from the mother, Wedgeworth, 25, where she informed investigators that she saw Lowe abuse both of her children several times, as she told the officials that her son was hit ‘at least 10 times’ by Lowe while he wore boxing gloves. “The evidence of Christy Wedgeworth’s complete disregard for the wellbeing and safety of her children was overwhelming,” Bowie County Assistant District Attorney Katie Carter said, as reported by TXK Today on Friday, December 16. “Justice would not have been served without the service of the men and women on this jury as well as those who served on Joshua Lowe’s jury.”
