As the Black Lives Matter movement continues to gain traction, many statues held high in American history have been taken down by protesters. In the process, America's dark past of slavery and killing of the Native Americans has re-surfaced, causing Internet users to question, "Why are we celebrating these racists?!" Many statues including Thomas Jefferson's and George Washington's have been taken down, as reported by FOX News. The Jefferson statue was taken down in Portland, Oregon along with a Washington statue. Most recently, a video on Twitter showed the statue of Christopher Columbus being taken down in Little Italy, Baltimore. It was also reported by Wbal-Tv that the Columbus statue was also thrown in Inner Harbor. Many tweets took over the social media channel with pictures of the happenings, and were pointing out that one can see "the rope in the water that’s still attached to the statues," while others wrote how "right this is!" and that "it was just the beginning."

"The fact that Christopher Columbus statues even still stand at all before today boggles my mind," wrote one user with another adding, "Take them all down #Anonymous." Another user said, "Columbus truly isn’t relevant to us like why do we have his statue everywhere?." While Columbus is hailed for his "discoveries," there were also many atrocities that he's remembered for. As the video went viral on Twitter, social media users didn't hesitate to give those upset about the fallen statute a lesson in history. "As a Native American, this is amazing," wrote one user.

"Did you know he would cut the hands off of indigenous people if they didn't bring him enough gold. His atrocities are well documented perhaps a good history lesson is in order. Here's some resources https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Columbus#Voyages… https://history.com/topics/exploration/christopher-columbus," tweeted one user, to which another user replied, "I did not know they but thank you for letting me know how bad he is. Take down his statue he deserves it to be destroyed," replied one user.

"Yes! Statues should be made of people that we look up to. If you look up to Christopher Columbus I fear for you and everyone you know," wrote another user. Another supporter wrote, "THEY DID WHAT HAD TO BE DONE." This is not the first statue that hs been taken down, and people on the social media channel reminded people that there are many more of them still standing. "We need the same energy for the one at columbus circle in nyc," tweeted a user with the picture of the statue.

"When He discovered america, some Europe's countrys do this:90% of native people were kill by them, They obligated us to follow their religion, They stolen all our minerals, They obligated us to speak their languague. They made us to leaved our beliefs Do you want me to continue?" tweeted another user. Many also took to social media to wish condolences to the people that "were taken away from us." "You know, if he didn't 'discover' your country. Y'all wouldn't BE here right now," wrote another user with another replying, "He also introduced slavery to the Western hemisphere. i think we would've been fine without his 'discovery,'" tweeted another user.

"The city could have removed it forever ago, but they did nothing. This is what happens. This is a good thing. #BLM," wrote a user while another added, "This is great, this is what progressive America needsssss!!!"
