On Tuesday, December 29, American model, television personality, author, and entrepreneur Chrissy Teigen announced that she was four weeks sober. The former model and cookbook author shared a fun video on her Instagram page, featuring her dancing in a one-piece swimsuit during her family’s Christmas vacation in St. Barts. When one fan joked how “I need whatever drugs you’re on!!” Teigen replied that she is “4 weeks sober,” also adding some heart and prayer hand emojis.

This is not the first time Teigen has talked about this. Teigen, who shares two children with singer John Legend, previously opened up about her relationship with alcohol in a 2017 Cosmopolitan interview. “I was, point blank, just drinking too much,” she told the magazine, adding that she was taking a break from alcohol at the time. “I got used to being in hair and makeup and having a glass of wine,” Teigen further said. “Then that glass of wine would carry over into me having one before the awards show. And then a bunch at the awards show. And then I felt bad for making kind of an a** of myself to people that I really respected. And that feeling, there's just nothing like that. You feel horrible. It's not a good look for me, for John, for anybody.”

"Imagine everything we have," Teigen had said. "Everything is there, always. I don't know how to go to an awards show and not drink." The Cosmopolitan piece said that Teigen said she had a history of alcohol abuse in her family. She said that she was the type of person who "can't just have one drink." Teigen said, "Nobody really brought it up to me. They just assumed that it was OK because I always felt OK the next morning. I knew in my heart it wasn't right. It makes you very short with people. People think it's cutesy and fun to go on these boozy brunches, but there's more to it. I've never once been like, 'I'm sure glad I had that boozy brunch!'"

While at that time Teigen said, “I used to think it was kind of nutty to have to go totally sober, but now I get it. I don't want to be that person... I have to fix myself,” she did not fully follow through. In 2019, in a now-deleted tweet, Teigen had said, "Oh my god I feel like absolute s***," following it with, "I hereby go sober for at least the week. Booze is poison."

Teigen, who was all set to give birth to her third child, shared the heartbreaking news of her miscarriage earlier this year on September 30. She told her fans that she went through the pain she "never felt before" as she lost her unborn baby Jack and said, "despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough".

She wrote in an Instagram post which had a picture of her sitting on a hospital bed with hands folded and eyes full of tears, "We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital. But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever. To our Jack — I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you.”
