Did Shanann Watts send cops message from the grave? Netflix docu fans spot fetus and skull in oil: 'Very creepy'
If the case of Chris Watts murdering his entire family was not creepy enough, people who saw the Netflix documentary based on the case, 'American Murder: The Family Next Door', believe that they spotted the moment the killer's wife, Shanann Watts, sent the police a message about her murder from beyond the grave.
Crime story lovers who were familiar with the case already expected the documentary to describe how Chris murdered Shanann and their two daughters. Chris admitted that in August 2018, he smothered Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, before dumping their bodies in oil tanks. He also strangled pregnant Shanann in their Colorado home before throwing her body in a shallow grave.
A clip that later became part of a conspiracy theory on Facebook made its way to Twitter and fans of the documentary believed that they had unearthed the moment Shanann sent the police a message after her death, pointing to the fact that she was murdered. The clip in question was of Chris asking a neighbor to share their CCTV footage with him and the police the morning after his family had gone missing. In the video, Chris stood with his back to a television screen that played in the background. In what is believed to be a commercial playing on CW, immediately after the neighbor turns the CCTV footage off, a fetus and then a skull in black oil appeared on the screen.
Fans believe this was Shanann sending a message to the cops about what happened to her. The clip was posted with the caption: "Chris Watts stood next to the TV in his neighbors home while the police watched the CCTV footage... As they chatted a foetus, then a skull floating in oil appeared on the screen. His wife Shanann was four months pregnant and he put his two daughters in oil tanks. If you believe in the paranormal, was it Shanann sending them clues or coincidence? Very creepy."
The clip was also shared on Twitter. One user commented, "The @Netflix film #AmericanMurder has — perhaps because of its subject matter — spawned more than one creepy conspiracy theory." Another wrote, "This Chris Watts neighbor showing the cops the surveillance footage from earlier that morning when CW went to work. The ad that played was a fetus and right after a skull that looks to be submerged in oil. The universe is wild man." A third said, "I believe in signs from above after a fetus popped up on the tv screen and then a skull covered in oil right after Chris Watts is watching CCTV footage of him loading his wife and daughters into his truck. What are the f***ing odds."

After Chris told his wife that their marriage was over, she told him that he would never see their children again. Chris said he then strangled Shanann in their bed. When his daughter Bella came into their bedroom clutching a blanket and asked what was wrong with her mother, Chris replied she wasn’t feeling well. The murders were carried out by Chris so he could be with his mistress of two months, his co-worker Nichol Kessinger. He was handed five life sentences for the murders without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty.
