SOUTH OF NOUMEA, NEW CALEDONIA: An Australian tourist was viciously mauled to death by a monster tiger shark in New Caledonia. Chris Davis, 59, was swimming near a crowded pontoon about 150 meters from shore at the Chateau-Royal beach, south of Nouméa, on Sunday afternoon, February 19, when the deadly tragedy occurred.

Grim autopsy reports revealed Davis, a father of three, never stood a chance to live, after he suffered severe injuries and bites extending 37 centimeters from the four-meter-long tiger shark. Authorities believe the recent rise of shark attacks in the region culminated after a restaurant where guests and staff throw food into the water off a "viewing platform" to feed fish, which often attracts sharks.

Single bite could have caused the death!

Davis suffered a bite to his "the major thigh, extending 37 centimeters from the hip to the knee, causing a deep lesion with the section of the femoral artery." Experts believe the "single bite could have caused the death of the Australian tourist" itself due to major blood loss, according to Daily Mail. The second bite from the predator is also deemed fatal "given the extent of the lesions," which were located in the victim's "upper limbs, the forearm, and the hands," reported the source.

The lifeguards swiftly raced on a jet ski to retrieve the man and bring him back to shore so he can be given medical attention. Paramedics from Noumea city's emergency services center "tried to pull the victim out, but the femoral artery was severed." In a desperate attempt to rescue the Aussie tourist, paramedics performed CPR for 40 minutes but unfortunately, Davis showed no signs of life. His wife and son said in a statement they were "deeply mourning the loss of our beloved husband and father."

'Tiger shark of a size of four meters!'

"Chris was a senior software programming consultant in the superannuation and funds management industry and a keen triathlete, having represented Australia several times in age group world championship events," the statement said. The statement also forwards its regards to the rescues and paramedics who tried to save Davis. Police forensic investigators sought the assistance of shark experts who helped identify the predator given "the shape and extent of the bites", the attack "could be attributed to a tiger shark of a size of four metres."

Furthermore, after a three-day hunt local authorities were able to successfully capture and kill the massive tiger shark. Following the scores of shark attacks, authorities are planning to slaughter tiger sharks and bull sharks in the area.
