MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Chris Cuomo's new show on NewsNation debuted this week, but in a disappointing start, the disgraced anchor came last in the ratings by a massive margin. Cuomo, 52, managed to pull in only 147,000 viewers and garner just 8,000 from the 25-54 demographic group during the 8 pm slot. On the other hand, shows of Tucker Carlson, Chris Hayes and Anderson Cooper garnered hundreds of thousands and millions more.

Guests including John Bolton, Dan Rather and Bill Maher appeared in Cuomo's show, where he talked about immigration as an issue emphasized in the US to sow division between the right and left even deeper. He opened up about how he "learned lessons" and was humbled by what happened at CNN. He said he wished to do better than before and promised to "do more to not just play, or even referee, the game."

‘He wants Megyn Kelly money’: Chris Cuomo reportedly seeking $60 million from CNN

Monday, October 3, marked Cuomo's re-entry into the world of prime-time news coverage and commentary after he was sacked last December. Cuomo will get a multimillion-dollar salary for his role at the company, which is being taped from Manhattan. At his new job, Cuomo is set to be receiving an extensive wardrobe and travel allowance. This is Cuomo's first attempt to recover his career after being fired from CNN last year. Back then, Cuomo tried to help his brother, former New York governor Andrew Cuomo, when multiple women accused him of harassment.

Fox News' Carlson, on the other hand, garnered 2.875 million viewers as he spoke bout the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline. His show raked in 20 times as many viewers as Cuomo's did. MSNBC's 'All In With Chris Hayes' took second place with 1.403 million viewers, while CNN's 'Anderson Cooper 360' was third with 814,000. Newsmax's 'The Balance', which is hosted by Eric Bolling, had 151,000 viewers, which was also a few thousand more than Cuomo.

Social media users believe Cuomo's show deserves no better than what it got. "More people watched SpongeBob SquarePants than Chris Cuomo’s new show on Monday night," one user wrote on Twitter. "Important question. Why did you feel the need to hire a "news" anchor who colluded with a government official to keep bad PR out of the news? Who also faked his covid lock down for ratings, while purchasing a new home? @ChrisCuomo is a liar, & a manipulator of news," wrote another. One user said, "Fredo is unimportant and irrelevant! He is forever labeled a portrayer of fake news propaganda!"

"Maybe America has had enough of Chris Cuomo...," one user wrote, while another said, "Hopefully Chris Cuomo's ratings are so low no one will care what he has to say." "Benighted moonbat and overall creep, Fredo Cuomo, saw his attempted return to primetime cable news as a cosmic ratings flop that landed him in last place against the competition. Bwahahaha!" one user wrote.

Previously, a source told New York Post that Cuomo may have been lacking leverage after being booted from CNN. The source referred to Cuomo as "damaged goods" and said, "I don’t think he had a lot of leverage." At NewsNation, he will reportedly earn $1 million, which is only a fraction of his former $6 million-a-year paycheck at CNN, the Daily Mail said.

CNN announced in December last year that Cuomo had been "terminated" by the network, "effective immediately." The development came amid an investigation into his involvement in helping defend his brother Andrew Cuomo against allegations of sexual misconduct. "We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and have terminated him, effective immediately," a statement posted to CNN's official communications Twitter account said at the time.

The termination came after documents that surfaced showed that Chris Cuomo had offered advice to his politician brother. The messages between the anchor and several aides and allies of the governor revealed that Cuomo attempted to make use of his connections in the press to help prepare Andrew Cuomo's team as stories by accusers began to become public. "I'm not an adviser. I'm a brother. I wasn't in control of anything. I was there to listen and offer my take," Cuomo had said. CNN subsequently claimed that the case was serious enough to merit a suspension. The network said that the "documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother's efforts than we previously knew", as a result of which, they suspended Cuomo indefinitely.
