'Chicago P.D' Season 7 Fall Finale: Fans want Erin Lindsay to come back for Halstead after that cliffhanger
Sophia Bush may have left her role as Detective Erin Lindsay on 'Chicago P.D.' at the end of its fifth season, but that has not stopped fans from hoping that she returns one day to the show. Now in its seventh season, the show's cliffhanger from the midseason finale has only intensified those feelings.
In this week's episode of 'Chicago P.D.', Detective Jay Halstead is kidnapped and this leads to the events in the final moments of the episode where he is shot. Unfortunately, the episode ends there and fans will have to wait till January 2020 to find out whether Halstead survives.
Through the episode, we see the Intelligence Unit determined to save Halstead, and none more so than his current partner, Detective Hailey Upton. Though "Upstead" fans are on the rise, fans could not help but notice similarities between this week's episode and an episode in Season 3 -- where Halstead was kidnapped and rescued -- successfully -- by Lindsay.
Lindsay's and Halstead's relationship was a fan-favorite, and when Bush left the show, "Linstead" fans were devastated. So it's not unsurprising that fans are hoping that Lindsay returns in light of what happened to Halstead, and perhaps give a Dawsey-esque reunion that was seen in this week's episode of 'Chicago Fire'.
One fan tweeted, "Someone call in Lindsay... at least she actually can save Jay when he’s in these situations ."#ChicagoPD #ThatsWhyYouHaveBackUp #OGPartners." Before the episode had aired, another fan shared, "Ok...so am I the only one sort of hoping that secret relationship Halstead has is with Lindsay. ( yah I know....different situation...but still..) or Lindsay is the one who will save him again. No? ok, I’ll just re-watch season 3 again. #ChicagoPD #Linstead."
Before Halstead's kidnapping in Season 3, Lindsay was spiraling after the death of Nadia Decotis -- she left the Unit and spent her days partying and doing drugs. Even when Halstead begs her to return, it is only after he is in danger that she comes back to save her partner, and we subsequently saw the two characters get together romantically.
Though it is highly unlikely that Sophia Bush will return, fans are still hoping -- and so are we. So far, however, Upton is doing a good job of filling in the void left by Lindsay, and should Halstead survive, this could happen in the romantic sense too.
'Chicago P.D.' will return for new episodes on January 8th, 2020.
