'Chicago P.D.' Season 7 Episode 7 sees Hailey Upton channeling Erin Lindsay and is out for revenge as she loses one of her best CIs
This week's episode of 'Chicago P.D.' sees the Intelligence Unit try to get behind who is distributing a dangerous drug after Interim Superintendent Jason Crawford tasks Hank Voight and his team with the investigation.
Detective Hailey Upton works with her CI, Cameron, to get access to the dealer, and when he connects her to a dealer, the operation goes wrong, with the dealer dying of an OD after exposure to the drug.
Cameron is eager to help Hailey and the two share a good rapport. In fact, he becomes too eager and even burns himself. Later, Cameron is killed by a Latin player as he meets up with Hailey.
Hailey immediately suspects Darius Walker, the Chicago mob boss, who is also working with Intelligence and tries to get Voight and the team behind her as she seeks to confront Darius about the murder. However, Voight understands that Darius is more valuable out there, rather than in jail and though Hailey is angry about it, Voight asks her to "carry it".
The team is not fully convinced that Darius might not be behind Cameron's murder, but it may be revisited later on this season. Throughout the episode, Tracy Spiridakos channeled Sophia Bush's Erin Lindsay in her portrayal of Upton, and at this point, we think that Upton was the right fit to replace Lindsay, a strong and beloved character.
We even got a tiny "Upstead" moment as Jay Halstead tried to comfort Hailey over the loss of her CI. It wasn't much, but it was enough for fans. One fan tweeted, "Mood when things are FINALLY starting to come full circle for Upstead praying nothing will mess it up @NBCChicagoPD #Upstead #ChicagoPD [sic].
Of course, it will be a throwback to last season when Halstead and Upton acknowledge that they have "something that works".
'Chicago P.D.' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights.
