'Chicago PD' Season 7 Episode 16: Hailey Upton and Jay Halstead's time together has fans rooting for them
In this week's episode of 'Chicago PD', detectives Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) are partnered up again after Upton requests Voight. Voight agrees that the two make a good team.
Over the course of the episode, Upton and Halstead deal with a witness who happens to be a domestic abuse victim. Halstead is all for saving the woman, trusting his righteous instinct while Upton relives her childhood. Her father used to come home drunk and beat up her mother.
At the end of the episode, Halstead gets the witness' husband arrested after finding the witness with bruises and sends her daughter and her to her brother in Arizona after buying them plane tickets. Upton then talks to Halstead about her experience growing up in an abusive household.
Fans loved the interactions between the two characters. One viewer said, "Hailey and Jay having a drink after work doing their thing like they always promised each other they would," while another tweeted, "The amount of Jay and Hailey tonight is so beautiful that I could cry. It's never disappointing to see them work together as a solid unit. no matter what happens, they remain each other's voice of reason."
One fan wrote, "Wow, so she was so proud that Jay 'put him in his place'. Honestly, I wasn't sure if that lady wasn't traumatized by Jay smacking her husband around, until that last 'you take it you shit head' look. It's a bit sad that Hailey's mom is still with her dad."
Another viewer tweeted, "Jay looking at Hailey with such love in his eyes is so magical. He's entirely too blown away by who she is at her core. you can tell how lucky he feels to have her by his side and to be able to love her in any way he can. that’s enough for him."
