'Chicago PD' Season 7 Episode 14: Vanessa Rojas upset she shot a witness, but fans say she did the right thing

This week's episode of 'Chicago PD' centered on Vanessa Rojas who worked to gain the trust of a witness who was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. However, in the final quarter of the show, the witness -- Sammy -- escaped the hospital and managed to get his hands on a gun.
Rojas works with Detective Hailey Upton (her partner in this episode and mentor) to track down Sammy. They chase him to a convenience store. While Upton and Rojas manage to get most customers out, Sammy sees a father-daughter duo and starts acting wild.
Thinking he was going to shoot, Rojas shoots Sammy, only to learn later that he did not have a gun in his hand, but his phone. Distressed, she tells him that he will not die as she presses her hands on his gunshot wound.
Though Rojas is stricken, Upton tells her it was the right decision and fans are saying the same. One fan tweeted, "Rojas ur good cop you did try to help so remember that now he can get the care he needs," while another wrote, "Rojas was justified in shooting. She had to make a split-second decision."
One viewer opined, "Rojas, that scene was crazy! You couldn't have known he was reaching for a phone! You did the right thing! Don't beat yourself up! [loving] the #Upjas action tonight!"
Fans are also loving the Upton-Rojas pairing and appreciating the women standing up for each other. One viewer tweeted, "Vanessa and Hailey partnering up is what I like to see," while another called them the "dream team".
A viewer wrote, "Hailey talking to Vanessa and telling her everything's going to be okay. I STAN A FRIENDSHIP!" Another fan said, "Hailey taking the time to check in on Rojas we love badass supportive women."
