'Chicago P.D.' Season 7 Episode 6 will see Halstead lead the charge as the unit tackles a sensitive case involving two young boys

A new facial-recognition software is also introduced to the Intelligence team and it could raise fears of racial profiling.
PUBLISHED OCT 30, 2019

Fans will be excited to know that Detective Jay Halstead will be the focus of this Wednesday's episode of 'Chicago P.D.'. Halstead was the focus in the season premiere when he suspected Voight just a little bit for Kelton's murder, but also stood loyally by him especially when the Homicide detectives tried to get Halstead to turn on Voight.

Though the culprit was found to be Katherine Brennan -- whom Voight tried to give another way out (suicide) -- Halstead and Hailey Upton interrupted her plans just in time to apprehend her.

Halstead played a major role in the annual crossover event as well, when he led the investigation from the beginning of the crossover episodes, and even negotiated with the culprit, going as far as cutting himself to give his team the time to position themselves to take the culprit down. But the crossover event was about all three shows and so, we don't count that.

In the next episode of 'Chicago P.D.', titled 'False Positive', the Intelligence team is trying to solve the case of multiple homicides of young boys. It's a race against time as the officers need to solve the case before a gang war ignites.

Though Voight told Halstead that he intends the latter to take over Intelligence after him, the relationship between the two is a little fraught over the events of the season 7 premiere. We haven't seen any more of that in the episodes that have aired, and we hope the theme is revisited in the upcoming episode.

Meanwhile, Interim Superintendent Jason Crawford wants Intelligence to use the new facial-recognition software to help identify a suspect, but as the synopsis tells us, the plan backfires.

Police facial recognition systems have raised a lot of flak as the software is shown to err when it comes to black and other ethnic faces -- and has led to an increase in racial profiling by the police. This could be the case in this week's episode and if P.D. relies predominantly on a system that has been proven to be ineffective; it could very well lead to tensions.

'Chicago P.D.' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights.
