'Chicago P.D.' Season 7 Episode 10: Was Hailey Upton about to confess her feelings to Jay Halstead?
When the midseason finale for Season 7 of 'Chicago P.D.' aired in November 2019, the show left for its winter break with a cliffhanger: Detective Jay Halstead was shot and was fighting for his life.
Jay was shot by Angela -- the wife of the man who was framed for the murder of two boys by the police department in order to save face. While Jay and Angela were being held hostage, Jay's conscience makes him confess to her that her husband was actually innocent. It is her anger that prompted her to shoot him, telling him that he deserved to die.
When 'Chicago P.D.' returned this January, the show picks up right where it left off. Jay is rushed to the hospital and his partner, Detective Hailey Upton is at his side throughout. When rookie Vanessa Rojas points out that Hailey is so worried because she loves Jay, Hailey confirms it by reiterating that he is her partner.
As predicted, Jay pulls through and Hailey is there to greet him. It is clear at this point that not only do these two work well together but that they genuinely know and care for each other.
What could have been troublesome is that Angela wants to go public with what she learned. However, Voight threatens her with arrest and reminds her that she is the only one left to look after her son. Angela then decides not to reveal what the police department did.
Later, when Jay is getting discharged, Hailey is about to tell Jay something. But he gets a call on his undercover phone and tells Hailey that it is Angela's son. When he tells her that he wants to check on the boy to make sure he is okay, Hailey tells him to let it go. But in these few moments in between, Hailey changed her mind and keeps her feelings to herself.
'Chicago P.D.' airs every Wednesday night on NBC.
