'Chicago Med' Season 5: What will happen to Phillip when Natalie discovers the truth about their 'engagement'?

When Natalie is unconscious, Phillip slips the ring onto her finger leading everyone, including her, to believe that they are engaged, except Dr. Marcel!
PUBLISHED OCT 5, 2019

Most fans were excited when they learned that Torrey DeVitto's (who plays Dr. Natalie Manning on 'Chicago Med') co-star from 'Pretty Little Liars', Ian Harding was announced to return on her current show.

However, when they got to know the character, that excitement quickly changed. Natalie meets Phillip (Harding) as she delivers his baby from his dead wife (who just died from an aneurysm) in season four.

Through the season, as Natalie treats this baby and her relationship with Will crumbles, she grows closer to Phillip and they start going out.

As the season ends, while his baby is being prepped for surgery, all Phillip cares about is proposing to Natalie, a woman he just met.

Of course, that should have been enough to set off all the alarms and somehow, everyone except Natalie seems to be aware of what a disturbing person Phillip is.

In the season four finale, Natalie is injured as she falls out of Will's car which was hit by someone targeting him. In the season five premiere, we learn that she has head trauma and is unconscious.

When Phillip visits her, he slips the ring onto her finger, telling Dr. Marcel that he is her fiancé. However, Dr. Marcel mentions that he did not think the ring was there before.

Phillip, however, continues the charade, telling Will to stay away from her and when Natalie wakes up, fools her as well. Even when she says she does not remember, he says she will.

Of course, the doctor mentions that Natalie's memories will come back so it is only a matter of time before Natalie realizes something is not right. Because the doctor told her she may have forgotten feelings as well, she thinks that is what the case with feelings for Phillip.

But who would have thought Natalie would be so oblivious to Phillip's true nature? Will already suspects something is wrong and when he tells Natalie this, she gets angry. But, let's be honest, she has always unfairly judged Will.

If and when this comes to light — perhaps Dr. Marcel tells Will or Natalie something, perhaps Natalie remembers — what could happen to Phillip?

It's not like he could be arrested unless his character goes the way Ava Bekker did. It's as if the writers felt they still needed Ava around for all the over-the-top stories they wrote for her, but since Norma Kuhling decided to leave, they just transferred that to Phillip.

So either, Natalie finds out and he goes away or he completely loses it and takes her hostage. Wouldn't that be hilarious to watch? 'Chicago Med' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights.
