Ethan will be going through post-breakup blues — which might explain why he is shown running headfirst into a hostage situation

The final episode of Season 5 of 'Chicago Med' is airing this week. With only 20 episodes each, all three shows of the 'Chicago' franchise have shortened seasons due to the ongoing pandemic. As such, this week's episode was not written as the finale but was the last one shot before production was forced to wrap up.

However, this does not mean that this week's episode will lack any of the action and drama that 'Chicago Med' is known for.

Of course, one of the characters this week's episode will focus on is Dr Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) who just broke up with April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) after learning that she shared a kiss with Dr Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains).

Ethan will be going through post-breakup blues — which might explain why he is shown running headfirst into a hostage situation so he can help out a little boy who has been injured by a perpetrator. Perhaps Ethan might even revisit some decisions after he gets through this ordeal.

Meanwhile, the mystery around Crockett deepens as two New Orleans detectives come to the hospital to ask questions about him and a cold murder case. Will his past get murkier or will we learn more about it?

Viewers have been divided over the character ever since he appeared at the beginning of the season. Hopefully, the season finale will answer viewers who feel that he should leave.

We will also see Dr Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) spend some time with his daughter. We saw her in an earlier episode when Daniel was dealing with a patient who could have been abused by their mother.

He came to the realization that he was not being a good father and promised to spend more time with his daughter. We worried that might mean the end of his run on 'Chicago Med', but it looks like it might just mean that we will see his patients more.

Finally, we will also see Dr Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) dealing with his patients while navigating his new relationship with Dr Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram). Will the couple find their happily-ever-after or will they see cracks forming?

The finale of Season 5 of 'Chicago Med' will air this Wednesday on NBC at 8/7c.
