Spoilers for 'Chicago Med' Season 5 Episode 20  'A Needle in the Heart'

Dr Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) had large shoes to fill when he showed up in Season 5 of 'Chicago Med' as a replacement for Dr Connor Rhodes after Colin Donnell left the show. After all, Connor Rhodes was one of the best characters on the show and he had been a part of it since Season 1.

Many fans felt that Marcel was arrogant and immediately decided they did not like him. This feeling, more or less, remained the same but got worse when he shared a kiss with April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) while she was in a relationship with Dr Ethan Choi (Brian Tee).

However, as fans learn more about him, some of them seem to be growing warmer towards Crockett. In this week's episode, two New Orleans detectives come to the hospital to ask him questions. Crockett tells Dr Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) that he is a suspect, but he doesn't know why. Natalie talks to Kevin Atwater of 'Chicago PD' and learns that Crockett's DNA was found at a crime scene from a murder that took place years ago. However, Natalie is convinced that Crockett is innocent.

When an old colleague of Crockett's shows up, Natalie speaks to him and learns that Crockett had a child who died as a toddler due to leukemia. Natalie figures out that Crockett probably donated bone marrow, which he confirms when she asks. In rare cases when bone marrow is donated, the receiver's DNA might be altered to resemble the donor's. When the detectives try to arrest Crockett, Natalie comes to his rescue.

Learning about Crockett's child helped fans understand why Crockett is the way he is. One fan tweeted, "'MaRcEL iS sO mEaN aLl tHe TiMe' Now we know why he has walls up against everyone. Don’t be bad-mouthing my man again. #ChicagoMed."

Another wrote, "Marcel face when Nat mentioned the baby. Don’t touch me. The pain in his eyes. He’s one of the good actors. He’s up there with Freddie Highmore and Cillian Murphy #ChicagoMed (sic)."

Fans are even starting to root for Crockett and Natalie to end up together. A viewer wrote, "Natalie and Marcel work. They are still to fall for each other. #ChicagoMed," while another tweeted, "I’m here for Natalie and Dr. Marcel as a couple I’m just saying #chicagomed."

However, not all viewers feel the same. A viewer tweeted, "I still can’t believe we sacrificed Rhodes for this Marcel person. But he does have more chemistry with Natalie. #ChicagoMed," while another wrote, "Look I don’t like dr marcel but I feel bad for him, he’s hiding a lot of emotion #ChicagoMed." Another opined, "Natalie and Marcel’s chemistry is so flat it’s not even there #chicagomed."

Of course, what remains to be seen is whether Crockett will be more appealing to fans in Season 6. Should the "Mancel" ship happen, it may very well change the character in many viewers' eyes.
