'Chicago Med' Season 5 Episode 7 pitches 4th-year medical student Elsa Curry as a possible love interest for Dr Will Halstead
In this week's episode of 'Chicago Med', Dr. Natalie Manning and Dr. Will Halstead are not talking to each other, much like 5-years-olds who have had a bad fight, with the former not even acknowledging Will's presence and the others at the hospital are starting to notice.
Natalie works with Elsa Curry, the 4th year medical student who seems to have a hard time letting her emotions show. The two work on a mother-daughter duo who were victims of a car crash. While the daughter is near-death, Natalie promises the mother there is hope if she resorts to a particular remedy, with Elsa saying that it has shown just 25% success.
This, obviously, annoys Natalie who tells Elsa that the mother was looking for hope, not statistics. Later, when the daughter dies, Elsa is not able to handle the pain and tells Natalie that she gets overwhelmed and puts up a stone-face, and calls Natalie out for judging her. Natalie then tells her that it will be Elsa's emotions that make her a better doctor, and while we agree with Natalie, we do think that she was too quick to pass judgment on Elsa, while Natalie should have acted differently with the way the other doctors have been treating her.
Meanwhile, Will is busy with a "vampire" patient, a boy who has implanted fangs and burns in the sun -- the latter is then known to be caused by Hepatitis-C. Though we don't see him explicitly emote anything with respect to Natalie, we get that he is bogged down by it.
At Dr. Crockett Marcel's crawfish boil at his house, Will gets talking to Elsa as she shows him how to go through "one of these things" -- something she learned from YouTube. There may also be a slight hint that something could happen between Elsa and Will -- and that makes Will's list of potential love interests go up to three -- the FBI agent from last season, Will's friend who is a CDC doctor, and now Elsa.
If Will and Elsa do get together, that may or may not upset Natalie -- we don't know for sure yet whether 'Manstead' is truly over.
'Chicago Med' airs on NBC on Wednesday night.
