'Chicago Med' Season 5 Episode 7: Major feud alert! Dr Choi can't bear to watch sparks fly between Dr Marcel and April

Crockett Marcel turns on his Gambit ('X-Men') as he flirts with April during a surgery and almost kisses her at his crawfish boil.
UPDATED NOV 7, 2019

The synopsis for this week's episode of 'Chicago Med' had hinted a relationship getting rocky, and though we hoped that it wouldn't be the "Chexton" one, that's exactly where the writers went. April Sexton and Dr. Ethan Choi seemed to be at a good place in their relationship after a rocky season 4, so much so that Ethan has even gone into overdrive on trying for a baby.

From charting April's ovulation schedules to cooking her a nutrient-healthy meal, Ethan is all in. However, April does not seem to be as vested as he is. Later on in the episode, when treating a woman from the military fitted with a bionic prosthetic, despite her wishes not to involve the military, and despite April persuading him not to, Ethan calls in the military anyway.

When the military shows up to forcibly take the woman back to the base, Ethan and April ask Dr. Crockett Marcel to operate on her before the military can get to her -- and he does, despite his shift getting over. During the surgery, we can't help but think Crockett sounded a lot like Gambit from 'X-Men' as he flirted with April.

April is disappointed with Ethan and when she goes for Crockett's crawfish boil, she and Crockett almost share a kiss, and though April seemed like she wants to go for it, she stops in time. And right on time too as Ethan shows up to apologize to April and tell her that he will stop disrespecting her decisions.

As the episode ended, it looked like April and Ethan might be okay, but secrets don't often remain buried and we think that Ethan might eventually find out. Moreover, Crockett's interest in April doesn't look like it will be going away.

It will be up to April to see what happens. She and Ethan have a really good thing going, and we were finally ready for a Chexton drama-free season, but it looks like the writers of 'Chicago Med' don't want anyone to remain happy.

'Chicago Med' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights.
