'Chicago Med' Season 5 Episode 17: Dr Charles's daughter suddenly shows up in his life, leaves fans confused

This week's episode of 'Chicago Med' was also its 100th episode and while it featured the requisite relationship and medical emergency-related drama, it also featured the arrival of a character many fans did not know existed.
As the episode begins, Dr Daniel Charles's (Oliver Platt) 13-year-old daughter Anna shows up. She was suspended from school for vaping and her mother (Daniel's ex-wife who has moved to Milwaukee) drops her with Daniel telling him he needs to spend more time with her.
Daniel does not agree with his ex-wife's declarations, however, after his daughter breaks down on witnessing a mother crying not to take her child away, he sits down and actually talks to her. Anna tells him that he has been a bad father after asking if they would be separated too. Daniel understands that he has been neglectful of his child and vows to spend more time with her.
During the episode and after, though fans loved the interaction between Daniel and Anna, they all had one question: Where did she come from? One fan tweeted, "Uuuum, wait! Dr Charles has another daughter?" Another wrote, "Great Wedding and Music. Where did Dr Charles daughter come from? #ChicagoMed."
One viewer opined, "Dr. Charles random daughter... not sure how I feel about this plot twist... #chicagomed." Another wrote, "Seems like he has a daughter at any age when it's convenient to the storyline... Like where was she when he was shot, during his wedding etc... #ChicagoMed." A viewer asked, "He literally forgot about her. This is what season of #chicagomed? His other daughter was in the show. Why wasn’t this daughter even at mentioned?"
Some fans praised the heart-to-heart conversation between father and daughter. One viewer tweeted, "Oh man. I’m glad his daughter is being honest about her feelings with Dr. Charles. He needs to step up his dad game #ChicagoMed." Another wrote, "This episode it’s off the charts it’s the best episode. Dr Charles and his daughters heart to heart is making me [cry] but it was obviously needed. #ChicagoMed."
Some fans think that viewers may have seen Anna before. One fan tweeted, "Wow. I watched the DVDs and the Last time we so his younger daughter was season 2. Really never mentioned again. Med is probably the king in #onechicago of saying something and ignoring it for seasons and then bringing it up out of the blue. #chicagomed."
