'Chicago Med' Season 5 Episode 12: Marcel and Natalie rush to save 2 kids as his devastating secret comes out
Dr Crockett Marcel and Dr Natalie Manning are both stubborn doctors on 'Chicago Med', but we have never seen them work together. That changes in this week's episode as Marcel and Natalie respond to a school bus crash where two kids have been impaled by a single steel bar.
The episode started with a mini-crossover as Lt Kelly Severide from 'Chicago Fire' was the first responder on site. Severide, Marcel and Natalie discuss options to proceed while Natalie thinks it is risky to move both kids together, Marcel knows that freeing one child would mean the other would die.
Natalie finally agrees and with a risky move, the kids are freed — with the rod still intact between them — and moved to the hospital. The two children, Kate and Henry, are also best friends. Marcel and Natalie operate on both kids separately, and at first, things are not going well.
Henry's parents then go off at Marcel when they realize that he endangered their son to save Kate. However, he tells them that he will speak to them after Henry's surgery. When Natalie asks how he will go about it, he suggests tying up Henry's carotid so that he is safe.
But Natalie tells him that Marcel needs to do what is necessary and ensure that the child has a good life ahead, and advises Marcel to not play it safe. Marcel does go with the risky procedure.
Thankfully, both Kate and Henry make it out well. Natalie, like the viewers, knows that no other doctor would have made the decision of moving the two children together. When she asks him about it, he tells her, "No one should have to lose a child."
While Natalie may not have understood what Marcel meant, we might have. The revelation opens up Marcel more to the viewers, making him more real. We have wondered in the past why Marcel always makes risky decisions and this week's episode gave us an insight into that.
'Chicago Med' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights.
