In the fall finale of Season 5 of 'Chicago Med', Dr Natalie Manning's memories of the night of the accident finally came back. This was after she told Dr Will Hastead in a previous episode that he has to leave her alone when he tried to tell her that she never really agreed to marry Phillip.

When Natalie got her memories back, she went rushing to Will to confess that she still loves him. However, Will has moved on and told her that they are not good together, effectively ending the Manstead relationship.

When 'Chicago Med' returned for new episodes this Wednesday, Natalie asks Will if they can still be friends, to which Will agrees. However, Natalie and Will end up working together on the case of a child with injuries and his mother who is an addict.

The mother, Lynn, had previously been treated by Will four years ago at the hospital and he feels responsible to get her clean by the time her son is released. Natalie wants to call Child Protective Services (CPS) but Will makes a deal with her until he gets the mother ready.

However, Natalie — on finding out that the situation is worse than Lynn led Will to believe — calls CPS anyway but does not inform Will. When CPS comes to tell Lynn that they are taking medical custody of her son, Will is just as shocked as she is. In the grief, Lynn leaves the hospital. She overdoses and passes away.

While Natalie did the right thing, the episode proved again why Will was right in telling her that they cannot be together. For one, Natalie does not trust his judgments — even when they are sound — and this has been consistent since they met, if not worsening.

Two, when it appears that they can be at loggerheads over an issue, she always takes the final action before talking to Will about it. Had Will known what the child had told Natalie, he would likely have agreed with Natalie's call. By putting him in the dark, Natalie only proved why Will and she shouldn't even be friends.

'Chicago Med' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights.
