When will 'Chicago Fire' Season 9 Episode 5 air? Cruz and Hermann will be stuck in a dangerous blaze
Along with the other shows of the 'Chicago' franchise on NBC, 'Chicago Fire' is back with new episodes for the current season. Season 9 of 'Chicago Fire' has been through many breaks due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and due to certain political events. While this season could be shorter, we will still have new episodes of 'Chicago Fire' coming in and there is much to be seen.
What happened previously?
Right now, the biggest lingering storyline on 'Chicago Fire' is the will-they-won't-they relationship of Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer). The paramedic and firefighter have had feelings for each other for quite some time, but Casey's ex, Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund) who left two seasons ago still has a large presence on the show.
Nevertheless, it could be hard for Brett and Casey to move on from each other as well. Brett is clearly disturbed when a woman Casey rescued gives her number to him and Casey is just as disturbed when a firefighter from another firehouse asks him if Brett is single. Perhaps Brett and Casey just need some additional motivation to let go of any other doubts about their relationship.
Meanwhile, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) is all set to give the lieutenant's exam, and while Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) was completely supportive of his girlfriend earlier, he is now keeping his space from her. Severide is doing it so he won't jeopardize Kidd's exam, but if he were more open with her, they may not have relationship troubles.
When will Episode 5 air?
'Chicago Fire' Season 9 Episode 5 will air on Wednesday, February 3, at 9/8c on NBC.
What to expect from Episode 5?
The synopsis for 'Chicago Fire' Season 9 Episode 5 states, "When Firehouse 51 is called to the scene of a dangerous blaze inside a 10-story storage unit, Herrmann and Cruz find themselves trapped inside a freight elevator with all communications cut off."
While we have had many scenes where Christopher Hermann (David Eigenberg) and Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) have appeared together, we don't really see them interact individually at length, especially in a high-pressure situation. So we cannot wait to see how this episode will play out.
Moreover, since both Hermann and Cruz were close to Brian "Otis" Zvonecek (Yuri Sardarov), who lost his life fighting a major factory fire, we are certain there will be some painful moments these firefighters will live through as they fight for their lives. We hope Cruz and Hermann are safe, however, and that history won't repeat itself.
Meanwhile, we will also see the continuing storylines, including the Brett-Casey relationship, Stella Kidd's upcoming lieutenant's exam, and of course, a potential budding romance between Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende) and Gianna Mackey (Adriyan Rae), though we are not certain that Cruz would approve of the last.
Firehouse 51 has changed a lot since the first season of 'Chicago Fire', and with newer members, the family is undergoing a lot of changes -- and yet, the show pulls off their camaraderie quite well, so we don't doubt that the show will go well for future seasons.
