'Chicago Fire' Season 9: Release date, plot, cast and all you need to know about NBC's firefighting procedural
This year, all three of NBC's 'Chicago' shows had unexpected finales in April because production for all three shows was shut down due to the lockdown imposed following the coronavirus outbreak. However, all three shows are set to make a comeback later than usual, but earlier than expected with NBC officially announcing their dates of return.
Thankfully, before the shows were interrupted, NBC had announced that all three shows were to be renewed for three seasons each, so fans did not have to be anxious about whether their favorite 'Chicago' show would return or not. Of the three 'Chicago' shows, 'Chicago Fire' is the longest-running and its success spurred two additional shows which have now become a staple of Wednesday night TV viewing.

Release date
'Chicago Fire' will premiere on Wednesday, November 11. Going by previous schedules, the show will air at 8/7c.
Plot
The last season of 'Chicago Fire' was a tough one. Right off the bat, an original cast member left the show after his character, the much-favored Brian "Otis" Zvonecek succumbed to injuries he sustained during a factory fire explosion. While we were upset to see him go, 'Chicago Fire' did a wonderful job of paying tribute to Otis and how much the character meant to others on the show, especially his best friend, Joe Cruz.
It was not all sad news for Cruz, however. After his girlfriend Chloe initially called off things with him in the aftermath of Otis' death, they came back together soon and even got engaged. Thankfully, fans also got to see their wedding before 'Chicago Fire' had to end its season earlier than expected.
Another relationship that fans were waiting for to develop, but hasn't yet, is that of firefighter Matthew Casey and paramedic Sylvie Brett. For a long time, we were sure the two were headed to actually going forward with confessing their feelings for each other — and we may have even got it had we gotten the planned finale.
A new firefighter, Blake Gallo also joined Firehouse 51 and while no one can ever replace Otis, Gallo is doing a fine job of fitting in well with this family. Gallo and Darren Ritter, the youngest members of the firehouse, have a great friendship that we hope is explored more in this season.
