'Chicago Fire' Season 8 Episode 8: Fans are proud Kelly Severide is still helping people with his work at the OFI

Severide is making a difference in the lives of those whose cases he investigates and that might help him deal with his homesickness from being away from Firehouse 51.

Fans were distressed when Lt. Kelly Severide was made to move to the Office of Fire Investigations (OFI) from Firehouse 51 in last week's episode of 'Chicago Fire'. However, Severide negotiated that his time at the OFI to be limited -- just enough to clear the backlog of cases.

This week's episode saw Severide officially start his stint with the OFI, but instead of just focusing on the open cases as the chief of the OFI instructs him to, Severide revisits an old case of a grocery store fire that was labeled suspicious by Lieutenant Wendy Seager. The chief tells Severide that the more closed cases Severide reopens, the longer he delays his return to Firehouse 51 if at all that happens. This seems to throw off Severide for a bit as he certainly must not feel at home at the OFI.

Though this angers the chief, through their investigation, they realize the grocery store was not arson as initially suspected by the OFI, but an electrical fire. This work by Severide and Seager leads to the grocery store owner who finally gets paid by the insurance company for the loss sustained in the fire.

The woman tells Severide that though her mom tells her to take the money and leave, she tells him that she will rebuild the store because the community has nothing else, signifying the difference Severide and Seager made in this woman's life and therefore her community. This would perhaps make Severide feel a little less homesick about being away from his family at Firehouse 51.

Though fans are disappointed they don't get to see Severide at 51, they are proud of the work he is doing. One fan tweeted, "I think Severide is definitely good at what he is at. He is still helping people. #ChicagoFire." Another viewer wrote, "I think it is cool that Severide is with OFI but I will miss him at the firehouse! Severide about to show his skills and shake OFI up! @NBCChicagoFire #ChicagoFire."

'Chicago Fire' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights. The midseason finale of Season 8 of 'Chicago Fire' will air next Wednesday, on November 20th.
