'Chicago Fire' Season 8 Episode 7 'Brettsey': Brett and Casey could get together by mid-season finale and Gabby might help
When Gabriela Dawson left Firehouse 51 in the season 7 premiere of 'Chicago Fire', firefighter Matthew Casey and paramedic Sylvie Brett bonded over the absence of their ex-wife and best friend respectively.
The two got close enough to the point where both of them, unknown to each other, started to develop feelings for one other. However, Brett got engaged in the season 7 finale -- which was broken off earlier in Season 8.
While the new season had not given any "Brettsey" moments yet, the seventh episode made up for it, and maybe even hinted that the two could possibly reveal to each other their feelings.
Earlier in the season, Brett had gone for one drink with a social worker Ryan, and when Brett mentioned Ryan to paramedic Emily Foster early on in this week's episode, Casey seemed unusually interested in the conversation.
When Casey asked Brett if Ryan was the guy she was dating, she got unusually defensive. Though Brett doesn't feel ready to date again, Foster convinces her friend to give Ryan a chance, however, Brett does not feel a spark and breaks it off.
Meanwhile, during a hostage situation, Casey sees Brett calming down a girl who is worried about her mother -- who is being held hostage -- and asks her to be brave and set an example for her brother.
He then uses the same tactic later on in the episode to calm down a man while he and the other firefighters try to free a man from beneath a golf cart and who has been impaled with golf clubs -- and it works!
At the end of the day when they meet at Molly's, Casey buys Brett a drink to thank her for the inspiration and asks how it went with Ryan. When Brett confesses that it did not feel right, Casey tells her that she will meet the person she deserves, and we can't help but think that he hopes it is himself.
It is possible by the midseason finale that something might happen romantically between Casey and Brett. With Gabby returning for the finale, she might even be the one to encourage the two of them to give it a shot -- and won't that be something?
'Chicago Fire' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights.
