Spoiler alert for 'Cherish the Day' Season 1 Episode 5 — 'Analysis'

On Ava DuVernay's 'Cherish the Day' on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), we met Evan Fisher (Alano Miller) and Gently James (Xosha Roquemore) — two young black people who meet and fall in love amid struggles.

Some of those struggles stem from the fact that Evan and Gently are from different social strata. Evan comes from a rich family and has a high-paying job while Gently comes from the other side of the tracks.

That especially happened to be a problem for Evan's mother Marilyn, who made her displeasure with Gently known to Evan. An upset Evan fights with his mother and walks out of his parents' anniversary party with Gently. Though Gently does not say anything to Marilyn, she heard everything and it is clear that she is upset.

In the last episode, Evan proposes to Gently and though it goes badly at first, the two talk it out and are engaged for real by the end of the episode.

In this week's episode, the wedding preparations are in full swing. Evan's mother Marilyn is part of the planning committee as is Ben (Michael Beach), Gently's guardian. To both Evan's and Gently's surprise, Ben and Marilyn get along well.

Ben and Gently want to go local for all things for the wedding, something Evan happily complies with. However, Marilyn thinks otherwise and wants more for her son, something she lets him know. But yet again, Evan makes it clear that the only thing that matters to him is Gently.

That is not to say that Marilyn was wrong. When Gently accompanies his sister for her wedding dress, she finds out that Evan left his card so that Gently could buy her wedding dress too. He was sure she would like to get a "better" dress rather than the one she is getting tailored.

This upsets Gently, something we have seen from the first episode. Evan and Gently, however, talk it out. The two then decide to have a shotgun wedding, and lo and behold, Evan and Gently get married by the end of the episode and their families are happy for them.

'Cherish the Day' airs on OWN on Tuesday nights at 10/9c.
