Chelsea Crompton: North Carolina woman charged with murder of boyfriend's 4-year-old daughter
CATAWBA COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA: The sheriff's office reported that Chelsea Crompton is accused of killing a four-year-old girl in Catawba County. Deputies announced earlier this week that they were looking into possible criminal activity surrounding Hazel Lidey's death at a residence in Vale, California.
On November 25, it was announced that Hazel’s father's girlfriend Chelsea Crompton had been charged with murder in the young girl's death. After being arrested in Madison County, Crompton is being held without bond in the local jail. “Our communities have been shocked by the senseless violence that caused Hazel’s death,” said Catawba County Sheriff Donald Brown. “We mourn with the Lidey family as they grieve the loss of their child. Justice for Hazel.” The four-year-old girl who was not responding was found on Hill Haven Drive in Vale on November 17, according to the sheriff's office. A search warrant in the case states that the initial call was for an overdose. However, according to the warrant, EMS discovered bruising on the child when they arrived. “The child was reported by EMS to have suffered trauma-related injuries, due to the presence of bruising all over the body,” it read.

On that day, Hazel was airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte where she was pronounced dead four days later. According to court filings, Hazel’s father and Crompton were present at the residence. Deputies claimed they were pursuing the investigation round-the-clock and awaited the medical examiner's report after reporting Hazel’s death earlier this week. The warrant claims that during the investigation, deputies cut a portion of a wall inside the residence where the 911 call originated. As per the sheriff's office, Crompton will appear for her first court trial on Monday, November 28.
Friends of the family expressed their shock and desire for justice to WSOC-TV earlier this week. “Hazel, she was just a breath of fresh air. A beautiful child,” Melissa Caudle said. “She was just happy. I don’t see how anybody could hurt her.”
In another incident in North Carolina, MEAWW reported that a two-year-old boy with special needs was found dead near a family friend's home after being left under their care in Edenton on October 7. CorNyeah Lindsey dropped her son Dinari off in the morning on the day of the incident on Virginia Road. She called the couple she left the child with "like grandparents to the young boy." "I trusted them," Lindsey said in her statement. She added that she received a call a few hours later which informed her about Dinari being hospitalized. Dinari was autistic, blind without his glasses and wore hearing aids, his mother said.
