'Charmed' Season 2 Episode 3: The sisters try to decipher the Book of Elders to get their powers back

Harry realizes that the Book has a Sentinel, and the two head to the astral plane to visit this Sentinel to get the cipher from him

When the 'Charmed' reboot came back for its second season three weeks ago, the show went through a hard reset.

After a demon assassin attacks them and destroys the Book of Shadows, the sisters are sent through an Emergency Portal to the Elders Command Center located in a shared workspace called Safe Space in Seattle and are stripped of their powers. Of the three sisters, Macy is the only one with powers thanks to her demon side.

In the second episode, Mel, who is already tired of being on the sidelines because of her lack of powers, begins to experiment with brewing potions. She succeeds in making an invisibility potion that comes in handy later in the episode.

In this week's episode, the toll of being the only one with any powers is clearly visible on Macy as Mel tries her best to crack the Book of Elders that is written in an ancient language.

Harry realizes that the Book has a Sentinel, and the two head to the astral plane to visit this Sentinel to get the cipher from him. After a grueling test, Mel and Harry receive the cipher from the Sentinel and go back to their normal lives. But, as the Sentinel said, there's a cost to magic and that seems to be taken out on Katrina, who helped them visit the astral plane.

The Sentinel holds the cipher for the Book of Elders on 'Charmed' (The CW)

Now that the sisters and Harry have a key to decipher the spells in the Book of Elders, it couldn't come at a better time.

With the addition of Poppy Drayton as a series regular in her role of Abigael, the sisters are going to need all the help they can get to defeat dark Harry and the demon overlord who may or may not be Abigael herself.

With the Book of Elders, the viewers are promised a whole new set of spells and a different level of magic.

In the first season, we saw the exploration of regional magic with respect to different cultures and that could be continued with the magic in the Book of Elders.

One of the complaints that viewers had for the second season was that there isn't enough magic, but that may very well change with this week's development.

'Charmed' airs on The CW on Friday nights.
