'Catfish': Who is Kara, why did she pose as Jason and keep creeping back into Brooklyn's life?
The recent episode of 'Catfish' was disturbing on a couple of levels. It was about Brooklyn who began dating Jason after meeting him on Plenty of Fish. However, they'd never spoken on the phone or ever Facetimed. All requests of doing so were quashed down by Jason and it's for this reason that Brooklyn decided this relationship was not worth her time and she moved ahead and began dating someone else. However, Jason came creeping back into her life sending "miss you" texts and in order to help Brooklyn fully move on, her friend Ally reached out to Nev Schulman and Kamie Crawford of 'Catfish'.
Turns out Brooklyn was being catfished. Jason didn't exist and the person pretending to be him was instead a man named Rio. He was enlisted for doing so by a woman named Kara who was the roommate of Brooklyn's ex Carlos. Brooklyn had ended things with Carlos only because of Kara's incessant harassment.
Nev and Kamie's first thought was that it could be him who's catfishing her. However, upon talking to him, it was clear that he had nothing to do with it and now it was just Kara that remained a suspect. She outright denied having to do anything with it, during a zoom call, however, at a later point she had to give up the gig and agree to what she'd done. She said she used to date Carlos at some point and she just wanted to ensure that Brooklyn is out of his life for good and the only way she saw it possible was if she could keep Brooklyn engaged elsewhere. Carlos insisted that she and Kara were just friends but the latter stuck with her claims. Both Rio and Kara apologized to Brooklyn for catfishing her.
Brooklyn finally found the closure she was looking for. She is still dating the guy she mentioned in the show, Rhemon Coleman, and her Facebook updates confirm so, according to a Bustle report. She currently works as a bartender and will also be going back to school to either pursue nursing or dentistry, according to another update on her page.
'Catfish' airs Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on MTV.
